Anderson Humane is a progressive, limited-admission humane society with an annual intake of approximately 4,000 companion animals with a live release rate of 95%. Veterinary Assistants are a vital part of our veterinary clinic healthcare team delivering high-quality, Fear-Free healthcare in a compassionate and collaborative environment. This position is structured in compliance with Illinois law, including Illinois HB 3360.
What You’ll Do
Conduct all animal interactions following Fear Free methodology (training provided).
Assist veterinarians with blood draws, catheter placement, medication & vaccine prep, and injections (SQ/IM/IV). Attend to anesthesia and surgical procedures, including patient prep, monitoring, and recovery.
Maintain accurate and updated medical records with timely documentation.
Respond to client and team requests with professionalism and efficiency.
Collaborate with clinic staff to support patient care and efficient clinic operations.
What You Bring
1–2 years of veterinary clinic experience.
Availability: weekdays (morning, afternoon, evenings), weekends, and non-standard hours as needed.
Confidence handling animals of different sizes, temperaments, and medical needs.
Receptive to learning and improving technical skills.
Strong multitasking and time management skills.
Ability to stay composed in high-energy or emotional situations.
