Location: Los Angeles, US
The Daily Mail is seeking a US Showbusiness Editor to lead our entertainment coverage across celebrity culture, film, television, music, and everything showbiz. This role is ideal for an editor with a strong news sense, deep industry knowledge, and an ability to turn fast-moving developments into clean, compelling stories.
As LA-based Showbiz Editor, you will oversee the showbusiness vertical, including framing coverage, managing a team of writers, editing copy, and ensuring we break stories before anyone else.
• Commission, assign, and edit daily entertainment news, features, and exclusives.
• Lead coverage of awards shows, celebrity news, and trending entertainment topics.
• Manage a team of staff writers and freelancers and provide clear editorial direction.
• Oversee features, news stories and investigations for our Mail+ subscription section.
• Maintain a high standard of accuracy, tone, and journalistic integrity.
• Monitor breaking news, social media trends, and entertainment industry developments to identify strong story angles.
• Collaborate with SEO, social, and audience teams to ensure maximum reach and engagement.
• Build and maintain relationships with publicists and talent representatives.
• Contribute to editorial planning and strategy for major entertainment moments.
Required Qualifications
• 8+ years of experience in entertainment journalism, including at least 4 years in an editing role.
• Strong understanding of the US entertainment landscape.
• Proven ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced digital newsroom.
• Exceptional editing skills with the ability to improve copy quickly while preserving voice and accuracy.
• Experience managing writers and freelancers
• Experience covering major entertainment events (Oscars, Emmys, film festivals, etc.)
• Strong SEO instincts and social media literacy
• Strong legal and ethics understanding
Salary: $150,000-$180,000 DOE
