Unity Animator & VFX Artist (Remote)

AbZorba Games, part of Greentube and NOVOMATIC Interactive, is a world leading games studio that creates superb, high-quality social casino games. We are in the process of enhancing and scaling our mobile casino application 'Diamond Cash Slots", and are currently seeking a Unity Animator & VFX Artist to join our development team.

As a Unity VFX/Animator, you will be the mastermind behind the visual flair of our slot games and meta layer – the eye-catching effects and fluid animations that drive the player experience. You will be responsible for designing, and implementing the spectacular visual elements that power our portfolio of slot titles. This includes everything from core symbol animations and big win celebrations to ensuring the performance and optimization of visual assets within the Unity engine. You will work in a collaborative environment with game designers, developers, and product stakeholders to bring new and exciting slot games and features to life.

This position requires an enthusiastic, team-oriented individual with a good understanding of Game Dynamics.

Disclaimer: This position is fully remote; however, it will require periodic travel to our office in Athens, Greece, every few months for team meetings and workshops. As such, preference will be given to candidates residing in Greece.

Your Responsibilities

• Craft Engaging Visuals: Design and implement captivating real-time VFX, particle systems, and animations that enhance player feedback, anticipation, and overall game feel ("juice").
• Elevate the Casino Experience: Create high-impact "Big Win" celebrations, dynamic UI transitions, and thrilling slot symbol animations tailored to our core audience.
• Animate & Integrate: Bring expressive 2D characters and game assets to life using 2D skeletal animation software (e.g., Spine), ensuring seamless integration and playback within the Unity engine.
• Pre-render & Optimize: Utilize motion graphics and image editing tools (e.g., Adobe After Effects, Photoshop) to conceptualize and pre-render complex, high-fidelity VFX into heavily optimized sprite sheets and frame sequences.
• Master the Pipeline: Build, manage, and maintain clean, scalable animation controllers, state machines, and Timelines within Unity.
• Champion Performance: Actively profile and optimize visual assets for low-end mobile platforms. Investigate and resolve overdraw issues, memory bottlenecks, and rendering glitches to ensure buttery-smooth framerates.
• Collaborate & Innovate: Work closely with game designers, developers, and art directors to translate abstract mechanics into thrilling visual executions, while staying current with emerging industry trends and Unity features.

Requirements:
• Experience: 3+ years of professional experience as a VFX Artist, Animator in the gaming industry (or equivalent experience).
• The Reel: A portfolio or demo reel demonstrating an exceptional eye for timing, weight, color, and "juice" in real-time VFX and 2D animation.
• Unity Experience: Hands on experience with the Unity engine, including Animator, Timeline and Particle Systems.
• Tweening & Code-Driven Animation: Experience implementing dynamic UI transitions and programmatic animations using popular Unity tweening libraries (e.g. DOTween, LeanTween).
• Animation Tools: Proven track record of creating, exporting, and integrating 2D animations using industry-standard skeletal animation tools (e.g., Spine).
• Motion Graphics: Proficiency in motion graphics and image editing tools (e.g., Adobe After Effects, Photoshop) for creating and converting high-end effects into game-ready sprite sheets or frame animations.
• Mobile Optimization: Strong understanding of mobile rendering constraints, with experience tackling overdraw, texture memory limits, and performance profiling.
• Soft Skills: Excellent visual problem-solving skills, a collaborative mindset, and fluent English communication abilities to bridge the gap between art and engineering.

Nice to haves

• Industry Experience: Previous experience and shipped titles in the mobile, casual, or social casino space.
• Technical Artistry: Practical experience authoring custom shaders (using Unity Shader Graph or code) to achieve unique visual styles without compromising performance.
• Version Control: Comfortable working with version control systems, particularly Git.
