Diagnostic Imaging - Ultrasound Technologist - PRN On-Call Status
Essential Functions:
1. Operates existing diagnostic ultrasound equipment with skill and confidence.
2. Performs Ultrasound examinations on inpatients and outpatients as requested by medical staff members, within his/her degree of knowledge and training.
3. Processes the films and scrutinizes them as to image quality prior to presenting them to the radiologist for interpretation.
4. Assists radiologist when performing ultrasound guidance procedures.
5. Performs the following procedures by use of real time, obstetrical, cardiac, abdomen, pelvic, vascular, intravaginal, small parts, and etc. as requested.
6. Cleans work area and equipment daily, consistent with department and infection control policies.
7. Reports malfunctioning equipment to department manager.
8. Obtains pertinent physical history on all patients/exams.
9. Demonstrates accurate and effective verbal and written communication with all patients and department/hospital personnel.
10. File and maintain accurate records.
11. Ensures all exams/paperwork is completed in an orderly and timely manner.
12. Maintain required CEU level as established for annual certification status. 13. Helps maintain patient/hospital confidentiality.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Shall possess knowledge in sonography, with manipulative skills and abilities to operate both transducer and ultrasound unit. Shall be trainable in all modalities in ultrasound.
Education:
High School and has successfully completed an approved diagnostic ultrasound training program.
Experience:
May be eligible for hire after completed training in OB and abdominal sonography and upon satisfactorily demonstrating his/her abilities at the time of interview.
Certification/Licensure:
Shall be registered by the ARDMS, or registry eligible.
Code Blue Training:
A minimum of BLS required.
Physical Demands:
May require constant standing. Requires frequent walking. Requires frequent lifting of 10-20 lbs. Requires occasionally heavy lifting of 55 lbs., above 55 lbs. with assistance. Requires carrying of 25 lbs. frequently and occasionally carrying 50lbs. Requires occasionally pushing and pulling 100 lbs. Requires occasional twisting, kneeling, bending, reaching, and overhead work. Requires occasional use of step stool and stairs. Requires frequent grasping. Ability to use typewriter, telephone, copier, and fax machine is required. Exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials is required. Eyesight and hearing shall be required to be corrected to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours. Eye-hand coordination and finger and manual dexterity are required. Required to work with sharps, magnetic fields, radiation, and body fluids.
Working Conditions:
This is an assigned on-call position to be shared on a rotated basis. This is for exams ordered after normal working hours. Response time is one hour. On-call technologists will conform to hospital policies and dress code.
