Role Overview:
The UAS Maintenance Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, airworthiness, and operational readiness of our unmanned aircraft systems.
This is a hands-on, onsite role supporting the development, integration, testing, and field operations of UAS platforms in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment. The position requires flexibility based on operational needs and may involve extended hours, field deployment, and physically active work, including handling equipment and supporting aircraft operations.
This is a 6-month contract position (with potential to convert to full-time).
Key Responsibilities:
Drive the development, integration, and testing of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), products, and services
Establish complete, accurate, and traceable maintenance and operational records.
Plan, perform, and track scheduled inspections and maintenance activities to ensure flight readiness
Examine parts and assemblies to verify conformity with design specifications and airworthiness requirements
Validate and maintain detailed mechanical and avionics drawings for assembly, manufacturing, and integration
Perform troubleshooting and fault isolation of avionics and electrical systems in both lab and field environments and perform unscheduled maintenance as required
Install mechanical and electronic assemblies and structures to support UAS development and integration
Control, manage, and organize tools, equipment, and inventory within the production and maintenance environment
Liaise with external suppliers and manufacturers to source components and support fabrication activities
Perform ground handling and positioning of the UAS in field environments, including staging, securing, and preparing the aircraft to support safe flight and maintenance operations
Actively participate in field operations, including deployment, testing, and operational support.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirement:
University degree or college diploma in aerospace, mechanical, mechatronics, aircraft maintenance, or manufacturing engineering
Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience
Hands-on experience with mechanical and/or electrical assembly and manufacturing processes
Strong hands-on electrical skills, including wire harnessing, routing, crimping, and soldering
Experience working with internal combustion (ICE) piston engines, including hands-on maintenance, diagnostics, and system integration
Proficiency with specialized hand tools and calibrated equipment
Proficiency with electrical test equipment such as multimeters, power supplies, oscilloscopes, function generators, and/or vector network analyzers
Preferred Qualification:
Experience working with helicopters is considered an asset
Experience with Computer-aided design (CAD) software (e.g., SolidWorks or equivalent)
Experience contributing to the design and development of safety-critical systems in aerospace and/or manned aviation environments
Previous experience as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) is considered an asset.
Hours of Work, Work Environment and Potential Travel
The position is an onsite role, and the Employee is required to perform their duties primarily at the Company’s designated workplace, as directed by the Company.
The standard work schedule consists of forty (40) hours per week, typically performed Monday to Friday, subject to operational requirements.
From time to time, the Employee may be required to maintain reasonable flexibility in working hours to support operational needs, time-sensitive activities, or business priorities.
