Role Summary: Join PwC’s Operational Restructuring team to apply advanced computational and analytical methods to solve complex business problems for distressed or underperforming companies. You will leverage data science, optimization, and simulation techniques to design and implement rapid, tactical, and sustainable turnaround strategies across diverse industries. Qualifications /Certifications required : Bachelor’s (4-year), Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computational & Applied Mathematics, or related field Experience required: Proven experience or exposure to mathematical modelling, optimization, and simulation for operational or financial improvement. Exposure to data-driven decision-making in consulting, corporate strategy, or turnaround contexts. Ability to work with large datasets and apply advanced analytics for performance improvement . Responsibilities of role: As a member of the PwC CARS team, the candidate will be involved in a variety of financial advisory and restructuring projects across a diverse range of industries and will gain exposure to a wide range of clients. PwC CARS services a wide spectrum of clients ranging from large, listed multinationals through to entrepreneurial, owner managed businesses, covering both domestic and cross Africa border work. We are seeking an Associate to join our growing team and work on high-profile clients facing financial or operational distress. These businesses require rapid turnaround or transformation across diverse sectors. In this role, you will provide strategic analysis and business assessment to support restructuring projects, leveraging advanced analytics to identify and implement sustainable solutions. A key part of the role is unlocking value from large, complex datasets – often millions of rows spread across disconnected systems. You will transform this data into predictive and prescriptive models that inform high-stakes decisions under uncertainty. Your work will combine optimization, simulation, and scenario analysis to design strategies that improve cash flow, reduce costs, and enhance operational performance. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders to ensure computational insights translate into practical, actionable strategies. Core Skills: Strong foundation in operations research, machine learning, and data analytics. Ability to translate complex models into clear, actionable insights. Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills. Agile mindset with resilience under pressure in fast-moving turnaround contexts. Key Competencies: High self-motivation, energy, and ability to meet deadlines with quality. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage stakeholders at all levels. Commercially astute with a strategic and innovative approach to problem-solving. Interest in financial markets and turnaround opportunities across Africa. Skilled in financial analysis and modelling, with negotiation and conflict management capabilities. Exceptional written and verbal communication, including structured reporting and client presentations.
