Duties
All drivers are expected to adhere to all road traffic regulations as well as the Company’s Motor Vehicle Policy.
As a driver you are required to sign a truck assignment form which contains the number of the vehicle being driven and the rules to be followed.
Daily the driver will be required to hose down the inside of the truck, whilst the outside of the truck must be washed down at least 2-3 times per week.
Each driver shall be responsible for any vehicle assigned to them. As driver he/she is expected to ensure that the vehicle is kept in good working order at all times. He/she must be alert and must exercise due care and consideration when driving.
The driver is required to inform the maintenance department through the Marketing Manager, of any problems, repairs or preventative maintenance that the vehicle may require from time to time.
Daily the driver must fill out the truck daily checklist and notify the Sales Supervisor or Manager when the vehicle check has been completed. If the vehicle is involved in an accident whether on or off premises, the driver must call into his Supervisor by telephone or VHF and report the accident. In addition, he/she will be required to fill out a Motor Vehicle Accident Report Form.
The Truck Driver will be required to pull stock from the freezer and will load the truck with the assistance of the second man.
The driver or his second man must check the product loaded onto the truck which will be confirmed by the Sales and Distribution Manager on the picking slip.
The driver and his second man must check the address on his invoice where the product is to be delivered and ensure that they are familiar (or know) the correct location. The driver must also review each invoice to determine if there are any special/specific instructions.
Upon leaving the premises, the driver must call the Sales Clerk on VHF to inform him/her that he/she is leaving the company’s premises and of his/her intended destination. Where the trucks are loaded overnight to leave the company’s premises early the next day, the driver must call the radio operator via VHF
Driving duties will also be determined by the department to which the driver is assigned.
From time to time you will be required to attend training courses in food quality, food safety and hygiene as well as any relevant regulatory procedures that must be adhered to.
All operating procedures must be followed as per the company’s SQF policy procedures or any other regulatory food safety standard the company may employ.
Requirements
Heavy-duty driver’s license, with a minimum of five (5) years driving experience with a heavy-duty vehicle.
