Position Summary
The Transportation Driver coordinates the safe transport of patients to and from the facility and assists staff with program support activities. Responsibilities include transportation of patients, assisting staff with patient supervision when needed, and communicating any safety or clinical concerns observed during transportation or patient interaction.
Essential Responsibilities
Safely transport patients to and from the hospital and scheduled appointments
Operate facility transportation vehicles in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws
Maintain vehicle logs, fuel records, and routine maintenance documentation
Monitor patients during transport and report any concerns to clinical staff
Assist staff with patient supervision and program support when needed
Maintain cleanliness and safety of transportation vehicles
Communicate vehicle maintenance or safety concerns promptly
Follow hospital policies related to patient safety, confidentiality, and infection control
Support the multidisciplinary team in maintaining a safe treatment environment
Complete required documentation related to transportation activities
Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent required
License
Valid Driver’s License with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
Experience
1–2 years' experience transporting patients in a 10–12 passenger van or similar vehicle preferred
Preferred Skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Strong attention to safety and patient care
Basic computer skills
Ability to work collaboratively with clinical teams
Understanding of behavioral health environments preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit or drive for extended periods
Ability to stand and walk for portions of the shift
Ability to lift or carry at least 10 pounds
Ability to respond appropriately in emergency or patient safety situations
Additional Requirements
CPR Certification
Behavioral Management Training
Completion of required orientation and annual training
Ability to work in a behavioral health environment with acute patient needs
