Job Title: Transmission Engineer
Location: [Athens, TX / Houston, TX / Remote / Hybrid]
Department: Transmission & Substation Engineering
Reports To: Transmission Engineering Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary
The Transmission Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, analysis, and support of high-voltage electric transmission systems. This role collaborates closely with internal engineering teams, utilities, and project stakeholders to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective transmission solutions in compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design and analyze overhead and underground transmission lines (typically 69kV–345kV+).
Perform line routing, structure spotting, and loading calculations.
Develop detailed engineering drawings, equipment specifications, technical bid summaries, and technical reports.
Conduct electrical, structural, and thermal analyses using industry software tools.
Coordinate with substation, distribution, protection, and construction teams.
Support permitting, environmental, and right-of-way considerations.
Provide construction support, including responding to RFIs and field issues.
Ensure compliance with NESC, IEEE, NERC, and utility standards.
Assist with cost estimates, schedules, and project documentation.
Participate in internal design reviews and quality assurance processes.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required or ability to obtain.
2–7+ years of transmission line engineering experience (level dependent).
Working knowledge of transmission design standards and codes.
Proficiency with industry software (e.g., PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, AutoCAD, GIS tools).
Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Experience working directly with utility clients.
Familiarity with ERCOT or regional utility standards.
Experience with renewable interconnections or system upgrades.
Ability to travel.
Compensation Benefits Include
$178 per diem for nights spent away from the Athens/Home Area on approved field assignments
Two (2) weeks of paid vacation upon hire
