Job Description

Who we are:

Glydways is reimagining what public transit can be. We believe that mobility is the gateway to opportunity—connecting people to housing, education, employment, commerce, and care. By making transportation more accessible, affordable, and sustainable, we empower communities to thrive and unlock economic and social prosperity.

Our mission is to revolutionize transit with a solution that delivers high capacity, exceptional user experiences, unmatched affordability, and minimal environmental impact.

The Glydways system is a groundbreaking network of carbon-neutral, interconnected transit pathways powered by standardized autonomous vehicles on dedicated roadways. Operating 24/7 with on-demand access, it offers personalized and efficient mobility—without the burden of heavy upfront infrastructure costs or ongoing taxpayer subsidies.

With Glydways, we’re building more than a transportation system; we’re creating a future where everyone, everywhere, has the freedom to move.

Meet the team:

The Solution Design team leads early Glydways system concepts for project pursuits worldwide. We evaluate sites and corridors and develop alignments that support the mobility goals of our customers and partners. The team works hand in hand with our product, infrastructure, and engineering teams to translate system operating criteria and technical requirements into site‑specific solutions, including 2D plans and 3D assets for space planning and visualization. We also develop visuals and documentation that help our commercial partners understand how the Glydways system operates. You’ll work with planners, designers, engineers, and commercial leads to shape proposals that are both technically grounded and visually compelling.

The Role:

The Transit Systems Designer role leads early system planning for pursuits, turning site and corridor analysis into viable Glydways alignments and facility concepts. This position evaluates site-specific constraints, opportunities, and customer priorities into clear options that can be evaluated, priced, and communicated to our customers and partners.

Operating at the intersection of planning and design, the Transit Systems Designer is proficient with 2D & 3D planning, modeling, & drafting tools to develop at-grade, elevated, or below-grade guideways, access points (stations), and supporting facilities. This includes preparation of alignment maps, coordinating ridership & capacity studies with team members to size access points and facilities, creating site plans, cross sections, quantity take-offs, and developing graphics and narratives that support project pursuits. The position is intended for candidates with 5+ years of experience who enjoy combining spatial problem‑solving, visual communication, and cross‑functional collaboration in a pursuit‑driven environment.

Responsibilities:

• Support alignment planning for project pursuits, including site and corridor analysis, selecting an appropriate guideway type, and establishing access point locations.

• Developing site-specific access point site plans with consideration to vehicle and pedestrian circulation and support facilities using various 2D & 3D design and planning tools.

• Produce system drawings, quantity take‑offs, and prepare cost estimates.

• Produce clear graphics that support commercial partners - plans, sections, diagrams, and layouts for proposals and presentations.

• Support production for renderings, animations, and VR experiences, ensuring visuals are grounded in system geometry and constraints.

• Partner with Infrastructure, Product, and Engineering teams to ensure concepts align with evolving design criteria and system requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Experience: 5+ years in architecture, urban design, transportation planning, or a related field.

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture, urban planning, engineering, or similar.

• Planning & design:

• Experience in site analysis, space planning, and alignment/layout design.

• Experience preparing drawings in a professional office setting, including site plans, floor plans, sections, and details.

• Ability to independently review architectural & engineering drawings, as well as prepare quantity take-offs and cost estimates.

• Exposure to transit, campus, airport, or city-scale capital infrastructure projects.

• Tools:

• Proficiency in 3D modeling & preparing 2D drawings including AutoCAD, Revit, & Rhino + Enscape. Experience with parametric design is preferred.

• Graphic design with proficiency in Adobe suite.

• Bluebeam Revu for drawing review & coordination.

• Soft Skills:

• Ability to turn complex spatial and technical ideas into simple, visual stories.

• Strong written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

• Self‑organized, able to manage multiple pursuits and deadlines in a fast‑moving environment.

A portfolio and/or relevant work samples demonstrating technical proficiency is required. Please include a PDF (max ~10 MB) or a link to an online portfolio. A software skills test may be required during the interview process.

*This role requires quarterly travel to the San Francisco Bay Area, CA
