Our Patient Services Department is responsible for the collection of blood samples and handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, faeces, urine, tissue etc from patients within the community and the hospital. These samples are then processed and tested in our state-of-the-art medical laboratory.
About the role | Mō te tūranga:
Our Patient Services Department is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Trainee to join our team at our Auckland or Balclutha lab. This permanent, part-time role (30 hours per fortnight) offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional, supportive environment.
You’ll have the chance to develop your skills, learn from an experienced team, and play a key role in supporting patient care and laboratory services. This is a rewarding position for someone eager to grow, make a meaningful contribution, and be part of a dynamic healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities:
Collect blood samples from patients in both community and hospital settings.
Handle and manage contained biological specimens, including blood, faeces, urine, and tissue, in accordance with safety and compliance standards.
Ensure accurate labelling, handling, and transport of patient specimens.
Support the processing and testing of specimens using Point of Care testing machines.
Maintain patient care, confidentiality, and quality standards at all times.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
Full New Zealand Drivers licence.
If you are not already registered with the Medical Science Council of New Zealand, we will support you working towards becoming a Qualified Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician within 2 years of employment.
