About the role | Mō te tūranga:
We’re looking for enthusiastic and motivated Trainee or qualified Phlebotomists to join our Patient Services Department at our Wellington Lab. In this role, you’ll play a vital part in delivering high-quality care and service to our patients, making a real difference in the community.
We have flexible hours available across full-time and part-time positions to suit different lifestyles. Please note, these roles aren’t suitable for students, as the hours generally don’t align with study commitments.
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills in a supportive, professional team environment while contributing meaningfully to patient care and laboratory services.
Key Responsibilities:
Collect blood samples from patients in both community and hospital settings.
Handle and manage contained biological specimens, including blood, faeces, urine, and tissue, in accordance with safety and compliance standards.
Ensure accurate labelling, handling, and transport of patient specimens.
Support the processing and testing of specimens within a state-of-the-art medical laboratory.
Maintain patient care, confidentiality, and quality standards at all times.

To be successful in this role you will need to:
The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines.
Customer focus and commitment to providing a high quality of service to internal and external customers with effective interpersonal skills.
A sound knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory operations including safety, operation of equipment and hands-on practical experience is desirable, but not essential.
Diploma in Applied Science, or a Bachelor of Science would be an advantage, but not essential.
Registration with the Medical Science Council and an Annual Practising Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician in Patient Services is desirable, but not essential.
A valid New Zealand full or restricted driver’s license
Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
If you do not yet have your registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, we will also consider candidates who are in the process of becoming qualified.
