Role Overview
The Assembly Line Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and high-quality operation of the assembly line
The role ensures production targets are met while maintaining quality standards, controlling costs, and driving continuous improvement across people, processes, and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations
Manage day-to-day assembly line operations to meet production schedules, output targets, and delivery deadlines.
Coordinate labour, materials, and equipment to ensure smooth workflow and minimal downtime.
Monitor production performance against KPIs and take corrective action where required.
People Management
Lead, motivate, and develop assembly line supervisors and operatives.
Ensure appropriate staffing levels, skills coverage, and training are in place.
Conduct performance reviews, manage attendance, and address disciplinary matters in line with company policy.
Promote a positive, engaged, and safety-focused team culture.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure all products are assembled in accordance with quality standards, engineering drawings, and customer specifications.
Work closely with Quality and Engineering teams to investigate and resolve defects and non-conformances.
Support audits and ensure compliance with ISO standards and internal procedures.
Health, Safety & Environment
Take full responsibility for health and safety on the assembly line.
Ensure compliance with all HSE regulations, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
Proactively identify hazards and implement preventative measures to reduce incidents and near misses.
Continuous Improvement
Drive lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and lower costs.
Lead problem-solving activities using root cause analysis tools.
Support the introduction of new products, processes, and equipment.
Communication & Reporting
Provide regular production updates and reports to senior management.
Liaise with Planning, Purchasing, Engineering, and Logistics to ensure alignment across departments.
Escalate risks and issues promptly with clear, data-driven recommendations.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential:
Proven experience in a supervisory or management role within a manufacturing or assembly environment.
Strong understanding of assembly line operations and production planning.
Experience managing teams in a fast-paced, target-driven environment.
Good working knowledge of health & safety regulations in manufacturing.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
Experience within heavy manufacturing, automotive, or trailer/body building sectors.
IOSH or similar health & safety qualification.
Experience working with ERP or production planning systems
