Job Description
We are looking for a skilled Traffic Management Planner to develop accurate, compliant, and safety-focused Temporary Traffic Management Plans for a wide range of projects in New Zealand. This role involves preparing high‑quality traffic management drawings, documentation, and approvals while collaborating closely with internal teams, contractors, and local authorities. You will help ensure safe, efficient traffic operations by maintaining design quality, meeting regulatory standards, and supporting continuous improvement across the planning process.
• Develop temporary traffic management plans (TMPs) in line with New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) CoPTTM and local authority requirements.
• Use RapidPlan and other industry-standard tools to prepare accurate and compliant traffic management drawings.
• Ensure plans consider the safety of road users, workers, and the public, while minimising disruption.
• Prepare documentation, including site notes, approvals, and supporting material in Word and other platforms.
• Incorporate input from civil works, tree services, and other divisions to create integrated service plans.
• Manage 15–20 applications per week, balancing small-scale and larger project-based TMPs.
• Work with internal teams, supervisors, and clients to clarify requirements and resolve design queries.
• Maintain consistency and quality across all submitted designs to support approvals by local authorities and contractors.
• Contribute to improving design processes and efficiency, including template development and best practice sharing.
• Apply strong working knowledge of NZTA CoPTTM, local authority traffic management requirements, and safety regulations.
• Ensure all plans comply with current New Zealand traffic management legislation and operational standards.
• Stay updated on changes in traffic management laws, practices, and technologies. ‹ Support and liaise with the internal design team to manage workload and improve turnaround times.
• Work alongside supervisors and field staff to ensure designs are practical, safe, and implementable.
• Provide design and compliance guidance to trainees or junior staff as required.
• Assist with stakeholder communication, including submitting TMPs for approval and responding to feedback from councils and contractors.
• Other role specific duties as they arise.
Requirements:
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in traffic management planning within New Zealand/Australia.
• Proficiency in RapidPlan (essential), with additional experience in Planswift or similar design/measurement tools an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of NZTA CoPTTM requirements, local government standards, and practical application of TMPs.
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Design, or a related field (preferred but not essential with strong experience).
• Demonstrated ability to manage high-volume design workloads (15–20+ applications per week).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation, stakeholder engagement, and submissions.
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to balance compliance, safety, and efficiency.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and general computer literacy.
• Highly organised and able to thrive under workload pressure.
• Detail-focused with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
• Proactive problem-solver who can adapt to changing site and project conditions.
• Collaborative team player, able to work effectively with designers, supervisors, and external stakeholders.
• Safety-minded, with a strong sense of responsibility for protecting workers, road users, and the public.
