Job Title: Tourism Ambassador
Organization: Tourism Kingston, Visitor Information Centre

Reports to: Manager, Visitor Services
Job Type: Part-Time, On-site at the Visitor Information Centre
Pay Rate: $17.60 (Minimum Wage)
POSITION SUMMARY
Tourism Ambassadors are the welcoming face of Kingston, providing exceptional customer service and local expertise at the Visitor Information Centre. This frontline role includes sharing accurate, engaging information about attractions, events, accommodations, and services in person, by phone, and by email. Ambassadors help create memorable visitor experiences while developing valuable skills in communication, cultural awareness, and tourism operations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The Visitor Information Centre is open 7 days a week with varied hours.
Consistent weekday day time availability is a requirement for this role.
Employees are expected to work a combination of days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Extended hours will be introduced during peak season, events, and festivals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Customer Service
• Provide friendly, multi-channel support in person, by phone, and by email
• Share engaging information about Kingston’s history, arts, culture, and community
• Promote tourism partner services and products at the Visitor Information Centre and offsite kiosks during events
• Process ticket and merchandise sales accurately
• Maintain clean and organized visitor spaces, including light cleaning and inventory tasks
• Ensure merchandise displays and tourism literature are current and well-stocked
• Enter visitor data into the CRM system
• Support daily operations and assist with other duties as assigned
Tourism Industry Knowledge
• Stay informed about Kingston’s attractions, festivals, and events
• Understand and communicate offerings in accommodations, dining, and activities
• Assist visitors with reservations and personalized recommendations
• Keep up to date with local happenings and seasonal highlights
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bilingual; Must be able to read, write, and speak fluently in both English and
French.
• Experience in a frontline customer service environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
• Interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrate ability to plan and organize work effectively
• Adaptability
• Understanding of professionalism, initiative, and independence in the
workplace
• Ability to develop, cultivate, and maintain relationships at all levels of the
organization
