Position Summary:
The Topman is responsible for ensuring accuracy in layout of pipe routes and setting elevations ensuring correct installation of sewer and water pipes and system components. We are recruiting for the 2026 construction season (May through October). Hotel or Airbnb accommodations will be provided unless you prefer to secure your own private accommodation for the season. LOA based on accommodations.
Key Responsibilities:
Material & Installation Oversight
Inspect materials and piping to ensure quality and compliance with specifications
Oversee installation and repair of water and sewer lines in trenches
Document layout shots and redline changes
Mentor and guide junior crew members in installation techniques and safe work practices
Technical & Survey Work
Read and interpret construction drawings
Conduct checks on grade and alignment using transit or pipe laser equipment
Troubleshoot installation issues and provide field solutions
Ensure work meets engineering specifications, codes, and regulatory requirements
Equipment & Manual Labor
Direct and signal heavy equipment operators
Operate and perform basic maintenance on industrial and survey equipment safely
Load, unload, and organize tools, materials, and equipment
Perform manual and labor-intensive tasks as assigned
Safety & Compliance
Promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety program
Recognize and mitigate hazards in trenching, excavation, and equipment operations
Encourage all employees, subcontractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a cultural standard
Maintain awareness of environmental conditions and perform tasks safely in all weather
Requirements:
3–5 years of experience as a Topman, Pipelayer, or Working Foreman in civil/infrastructure construction, preferably in sewer and water projects
Abilities with applicable technology and equipment, including transits and pipe lasers
Proficient in written and verbal English, with the ability to provide clear direction to crew members
Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and attention to detail
Relevant certifications an asset: Confined Space, First Aid/CPR
