Job Description
The Tool Designer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving production tooling used in the manufacturing and assembly of aircraft interior components (e.g., monuments, seats, galleys, bins, panels). This role supports production efficiency, quality, and safety by delivering reliable, cost-effective tooling solutions aligned with aerospace standards and program schedules.
Requirements:
• Design manufacturing and assembly tooling, fixtures, jigs, and gauges for aircraft interior components.
• Develop 3D models and detailed drawings using CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX, SolidWorks).
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineering, production, quality, and program teams to define tooling requirements.
• Ensure tooling designs meet aerospace standards, safety requirements, and ergonomic considerations.
• Conduct design reviews, tolerance analysis, and risk assessments related to tooling.
• Work with suppliers and internal fabrication teams to manufacture, validate, and implement tooling.
• Troubleshoot tooling issues on the shop floor and implement continuous improvement solutions.
• Maintain tooling documentation, configuration control, and revision management.
• Support cost reduction initiatives and improve manufacturing efficiency.
Education
• Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field.
Experience
• 3–7 years of experience in tooling design, preferably in aerospace
• Experience supporting composite, sheet metal, or interior assembly processes is a strong asset.
Technical Skills
• Proficiency in CAD software (CATIA V5/V6).
• Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
• Understanding of aerospace manufacturing processes and materials (composites, aluminum, plastics).
• Familiarity with manufacturing methods such as machining, assembly, and inspection tooling.
Soft Skills
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering and production teams.
• Good communication and documentation skills.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
