Thesis Sound evaluation for Beds

Right now we are hiring two students!

The objective of this assignment is to develop a test method for beds and identify root causes for sound or squeaks that can appear in different bed constructions and certain material combinations. If time allows, identify and test ideas on ways to eliminate sound in the most cost-effective way. 

Drawing from both internal and external knowledge tasks may include: 

•    conducting a literature review, what causes sound/squeaks

•    develop test method

•    initiate testing in IKEA test lab

•    root cause to understand origin of sound

•    adapt construction to minimize sound issues

•    production and cost evaluation of solutions

We see that you are curious, motivated, and self-led engineering students with interest of testing, analysis, product design(eg how it works) and basics Physics.

You should not be afraid to test and try to get knowledge quickly. You also need to be able to communicate your work in simple way. 

We expect you to undertake the thesis during the spring term of 2025 with start in January or February.

During your work, you will receive support and guidance from one of our colleagues at IKEA of Sweden

We offer flexibility in location and working hours, However, we prefer that you are close enough to be able to visit our office in Älmhult (the heart of IKEA) on a regular basis.

Especially during testing phases, you will need to be onsite to fully understand the root cause etc.
