With multiple locations across the U.S., Refuge for Women offers safe housing, at no charge to the resident, with around-the-clock care as clients progress through evidence-based, trauma-informed programming. The compassionate staff is trained to help residents work through the program to reclaim their identities and reach their goals to overcome addictions, heal from trauma and develop life skills leading to healthy, balanced living and financial independence. Refuge for Women strives to help each woman complete the program with a vision for her future, equipped to succeed and sustain a life marked with dignity and hope.

Position Overview

The Therapist is responsible for the provision of trauma-focused, victim-centered, evidence-based therapeutic assessments and interventions and direct services to victims of human trafficking.   Provides assessment and restorative services in the forms of individual and group therapy, and education. The Therapist is proficient in Substance Use treatment, including ASAM criteria. The therapist works as a member of a team providing comprehensive services to support recovery.  

Your team contribution:

The Therapist position serves as an integral part of the team at the Emergency House assisting in the mental health portion of our care and healing for residents. 

Responsibilities

Provide trauma-focused, evidence-based services to victims/survivors of human trafficking or sexual exploitation in a non- judgmental manner using an empowerment framework

Assist victims/survivors with risk assessment and safety planning

Provide therapeutic interventions to address substance use disorders

Provide ASAM Level of Care Assessments

Provide supportive counseling, assessment and crisis intervention

Develop, with clients, treatment plans and 30-day reviews

Provide support for goal setting/service plans.

Facilitate daily therapeutic support groups 

Provide victims with educational information on the dynamics of violence 

Advocate on victims’/survivors’ behalf with other social service agencies when appropriate.

Data collection and analysis for grant reports

Document client progress, assessments, and treatment plans in the electronic health record

Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Skills and Expectations

A demonstrated working knowledge of psychological theory, which may include but not be limited to: trauma resolution; systems theory; crisis management; and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

A demonstrated capacity to express self efficiently and professionally in written and oral formats.

Excellent interpersonal skills, with a willingness to work from a team perspective in treatment provision.

Ability to manage stressful situations, i.e., client crisis, multiple and simultaneous duties, critical decision-making, and court testimony

Strong project management, servant leadership and teamwork skills

Self-motivated, organized

Ability to adapt to frequently changing priorities and handle crisis situations

Assessment, which will include, but not limited to: initial assessment within 24 hours of intake and a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment within 14 days.  This includes assessment of any risk of harm to self or others as well as ongoing assessment to determine any change in client needs.

Diagnosis of mental disorders as identified by standard diagnostic criteria found in the DSM V or the most updated version of that manual.

Development and preparation of individualized treatment plans with multidisciplinary service providers to prescribe treatment interventions, modality, and frequency.

Treatment of mental health disorders with individual and group therapy services as determined by client needs.  This will include assessment and intervention of clients in crisis as a component of clinical duties.

Proficiency in Substance Use Treatment, including ASAM criteria

Discharge planning to include, but not limited to, providing treatment recommendations and referrals to other levels of care.

Completion of documentation of all clinical interventions per agency policy. Demonstrate competent and professional writing skills in assessments, reports, treatment plans, progress notes, and communication with outside agencies.

Qualifications

Masters degree in Human Services field.

Must be independently licensed in the state of Kentucky (LPC, LCSW, LFMT)

2 years of experience in providing services to victims including trafficking and sexual exploitation or victims of other forms of severe trauma

2 years of experience with substance use disorders

LCADC preferred

Must have a valid state driver’s license

Successful completion of a background check
