Job Description
Temporary Kitchen Cook With Opportunity to Stay On as Relief Cook
Hourly, Non-Exempt | Full-Time, Weekdays | The Settlement Home for Children
Feed Kids. Leave by Dinner. Make a Difference.
Since 1916, The Settlement Home for Children has been a place of healing for young people in Austin who have experienced abuse, neglect, and trauma. Our 10-acre campus is home to children and adolescents who need stability, care — and good food. We're looking for a skilled, dependable cook to join our kitchen team while a staff member is on leave, with a real opportunity to stay connected to our mission as a relief cook afterward.
This is not a restaurant gig. No late-night rushes. No holiday shifts. Just meaningful, consistent work feeding the kids and staff who call this place home.
A Kitchen Job That Works for Your Life
We know kitchen professionals often sacrifice nights, weekends, and holidays. This role is different:
Weekdays only — no weekend shifts required
No late nights — your shift is over by 7:00pm each night
No holidays — spend them with your friends & family
Consistent schedule — plan your life without guessing your hours
Meaningful work — your meals are part of healing for children in foster care
