To outline the responsibilities and authorities the Technician in XRF has in relation to post requirements of managerial, technical and key support personnel
• Must be able to record, evaluate and validate all XRF data
• Must be conversant with report writing.
• Responsible for all daily document requirements and the distribution to the different departments.
• Responsible for the monthly time sheet accounting.
• Routinely provide training to operators.
• Completes tasks within the allocated time and plans work for operators to ensure that overall
• Service goals of the laboratory are met.
• Responsibility to performs routine and non-routine Analytical operation on XRF Spectrometers analysers if and as required.
• Responsible for the supervision of all analysis and reporting of results.
• Responsibility to ensure turnaround time is adhered to at all times, for work specified in regard to XRF analysis.
• Responsibility to draw up weekly status & production report with regard to internal analysis concerning the
• Responsibility, under the guidance of Section Manager, to validate any new methods or modifications made for XRF analysis
• Competent in the use of the LIMS.
• Must be able to do troubleshooting on instrument and methods used.
• Must know how to verify calibration standards / quality control standards / verification
• Standards and Certified Reference Materials (CRM’s).
• Managing Good Laboratory Practice.
• Must be able to help with the preparation of SANAS audits.
• Managing laboratory documentation.
• Responsibility to bring all problems (technical and managerial) to the attention of the Section Manager.
• Responsibility to ensure housekeeping in the XRF area is kept up to
• standard.
• Responsibility to record any day-to-day repairs, maintenance, calibration and verification of
• instruments performed.
• Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
• Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.
Education
• • • • • • National Diploma Analytical Chemistry/BSc Chemistry
• Matric/Grade 12 with Maths and Science
• 5 Years laboratory experience
 
Experience
• • • • • • Computer literate (Microsoft Office)
• Operational experience in a SANAS 17025 accredited facility
• LIMS administration and operation
• Experience in instrumentation, data collection and reporting
• Mastery in technical knowledge of analytical processes
•  Able to work with technical and management staff
• Able to coordinate and motivate a team towards a common goal
• Energy to motivate a team to always deliver results
• Able to work independently and to coordinate several activities simultaneously
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Has extensive knowledge of international standards and specifications used by the industry
• Is innovative with a systematic approach for problem solving
• Acts quickly and decisively; able to make tough calls
• Holds self and others accountable
• Works well under pressure.
