Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Manager to join the team in South Africa. This individual will be responsible to the General Manager for the management of the day-to-day operational services/sites within Alfred H Knight.

To be successful at Alfred H Knight the incumbent will need to display the following:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Essential
Ensure that all inspection and associated sample preparation work in the aforementioned locations is covered by properly trained members of staff, the work is adequately staffed and the work is properly executed and reported to recognised standards.
Ensuring that the Site Managers effectively manage their operations, such that sampling work is processed at ports, warehouses (and any other location) in a professional manner and in line with AHK Group expectations and, thereafter, to the satisfaction of the client(s)
Liaising with clients and the administration department to prioritize work specific to customers’ expectations.
Arranging shift, flexible or overtime working to meet the following contingencies: - staff shortages as a consequence of leave, illness, holidays, equipment malfunction / breakdown, peaking or growth of work volume within the operations, re-prioritizing of significant amounts of sampling work.
Ensuring at all times that a high degree of accuracy and precision is applied to sampling/surveying through incorporating and promoting good sampling practice principles (and/or to AHK SOPs if in existence). And for ensuring that the work is followed in accordance with documented methods and procedures. It is the post holder’s responsibility to inform the General Manager of any failure in compliance to documented methods.
Providing technical advice and support to the site staff as required, on technical or operational problems, acting in a ‘trouble shooting’ capacity to subordinates. Seek technical support and advice from elsewhere within the Group (or beyond if necessary) and encourage Site Managers to follow the same principle.
Support the General Manager as and when required in organizing and participating in client visits and general client related technical discussion.
Participate in the interview and recruitment process of personnel with prior consent from the General Manager.

Required Qualifications
An applicable degree or diploma in Chemistry whilst a Relevant qualification in Operations Management or similar will be an added advantage.
Required Work Experience
10 years minimum experience in technical or operational roles within the metals and minerals industry.
Required Languages
Highly proficient in English (verbal and written)
Travel
Travel as needed within Southern Africa
