Technical Director Level Design - Unannounced project

We are currently developing a new, unannounced project led by a senior team and still in the early concept phase.

To lay strong technical foundations for Level Design from the very first iterations, we are looking for a Technical Director - Level Design.

This is a central role on the project, combining technical vision, hands-on prototyping, and daily collaboration with the design teams.

You will join the project at a stage where everything is being built, tested, and refined.

Your role

As Technical Director - Level Design, you will be responsible for the technical direction of Level Design on the project.

You will play a key role in designing and optimizing the tools and technical processes that support Level Design.

• Define and evolve the technical direction for Level Design on the project;
• Design and implement Level Design pipelines and workflows in collaboration with technical and creative teams;
• Act as a technical point of reference, fostering smooth communication between design, programming, art, and production;
• Provide designers with appropriate technical solutions (editor tools, scripts, data, debugging);
• Prototype directly in the engine (UE5) to test and validate design intentions;
• Support project teams on technical topics related to Level Design and World Building;
• Contribute to the technical documentation of tools and pipelines.

What we are looking for

Your expertise

• Proven experience in Technical Level Design or a similar role;
• Strong proficiency with a modern game engine, ideally Unreal Engine;
• Solid understanding of production pipelines and data management related to Level Design;
• Good knowledge of the technical and artistic constraints of game content;
• Awareness of performance, stability, and optimization challenges;
• Ability to produce clear and accessible technical documentation.

Our Recruitment Process

• Application review: our team will carefully review your application.
• Initial screening (up to 30 minutes by phone): if your profile matches, you’ll have a first call to validate key points.
• Interview 1 – Introduction (1 hour, remote): a discussion with a recruitment team member to get to know you better and assess the fit between your background and our expectations.
• Interview 2 – Technical (1 hour, remote): a more technical discussion with two team members, focused on concrete topics and shared understanding.

A technical test may be included to better assess your working approach and technical sensitivity.
