Position Summary:
The Technical Buyer, within the Operations department, serves as a key link between Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and the suppliers. This role translates technical requirements and procurement objectives into effective sourcing and purchasing actions that support operational efficiency, cost control, and supply chain reliability. The position operates in a high‑tech OEM manufacturing environment characterized by complex products, stringent quality standards, and long lead times, contributing to the continued professionalization and overall performance of the supply chain.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain relationships with domestic and international suppliers, including performance monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives.
Lead supplier negotiations related to pricing, contracts, lead times, and technical capabilities.
Drive supplier performance improvements through close collaboration with Engineering, Production, Logistics, and Quality to achieve optimal technical and commercial outcomes.
Review and interpret technical specifications, engineering drawings, and manufacturability considerations.
Analyze market trends and supplier data to support strategic procurement decisions.
Prepare, manage, and maintain supplier contracts and pricing agreements.
Ensure accurate and reliable data management within the production control and ERP systems.
Utilize key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive supplier performance improvements and cost optimization.
Contribute to supplier development programs, process optimization efforts, and cross-functional improvement projects.
Support continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives within VDL Industries Gainesville.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to follow safety procedures, work instructions, and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Strong understanding of manufacturing technologies, including machining, sheet metal fabrication, assembly processes, and product testing and qualification.
Solid knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) with experience using inspection tools and measurement gauges.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Proficiency in Microsoft Windows environments and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Working knowledge of ISO 9001–based Quality Management Systems (QMS).
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across multiple functional areas and organizational levels
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or a related engineering discipline; or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience in high‑tech, semiconductor, aerospace, or medical device manufacturing environments is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times (e.g., files, office equipment).
Ability to move around the facility and occasionally visit production areas, which may include walking and standing.
Must be able to concentrate and remain focused in an open office environment with potential distractions.
Occasional travel may be required for training or coordination with other VDL locations.
