Technical Assistant - Solar Energy Developer

Position: Full-time
Time Zone: EST (Eastern Standard Time)

Overview:

We are seeking a Technical Assistant who will work directly with and assisting the executive team of a growing solar energy project developer based in Markham, Ontario. The successful candidate will assist with the production of supporting documentation, including technical drawings, reports, and data analysis. This role requires experience with AutoCAD, Google Sheets, and the ability to perform analysis based on large datasets.

Key Responsibilities:

AutoCAD Drafting & Technical Drawings:

• Create rooftop solar panel layouts that adhere to design best practices, code requirements, and shade considerations.
• Produce scaled mechanical drawings, including dimensions, showing design perspectives (e.g., plan view, profile).
• Review and create drawings over scaled architectural roof drawings.
• Interpret and draft architectural, electrical, mechanical, and structural drawings.
• Prepare 3D modeling of solar system designs as needed.

Data Analysis & Reporting:

• Analyze large datasets using Google Sheets and Excel, manipulating data to extract key insights and create graphs.
• Automate data analysis processes by creating scripts using Google Apps Script and JavaScript.
• Simulate Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) performance by comparing client consumption data with solar simulation data, and extrapolate the required battery size based on the solar system and client consumption.
• Create templates for automating data analysis processes and modifying spreadsheets using macros or scripts.
• Compare utility consumption data with solar simulations to measure accuracy and deviations. Present results in a clear and actionable way.

Technical Documentation & Report Writing:

• Assist in writing technical reports, modifying PDF templates for operations and maintenance (O&M) reports.
• Create standardized PDF forms for easy reporting and data input.
• Provide detailed documentation of technical processes for future reference and training.

Project Support:

• Support the Executive Team with the organization and management of technical documentation.
• Ensure that all technical files are well-organized, complete, and accessible to stakeholders.
• Assist with coordinating project timelines, tracking milestones, and reporting on progress.

Other Duties:

• Assist with the management of client communications, including follow-up emails and progress updates.
• Handle the administrative aspects of the technical team’s operations.
• Prepare and distribute project status reports to internal teams and clients.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth workflow between teams.

Requirements:
Qualifications:

AutoCAD Drafting Experience:

• Proven ability to read, understand, and create architectural, electrical, mechanical, and structural drawings.
• Experience in scaled drafting and creating solar panel layouts for rooftops.

Microsoft Office Skills:

• Excel proficiency with experience using Office Scripts and automation tools.
• Experience in Google Workspace Suite Tools including Google Sheets, Google Apps Script, JavaScript, and Google Drive.

Data Analysis:

• Ability to manipulate large datasets in Google Sheets.
• Experience with automating data analysis using scripts and macros.
• Understanding of how to simulate and analyze solar system performance and battery energy storage systems.

Electrical Engineering Knowledge:

• Ability to read and understand Single Line Diagrams (SLDs).
• Strong understanding of DC to AC power conversion in solar systems.
• Familiarity with 3-phase power flow, solar strings, and the role of circuit breakers in electrical protection.

Nice to Have:

• Productivity & Project Management Tools: Familiarity with ClickUp or similar online productivity platforms.
• AI Platforms: Experience using AI agents like ChatGPT for assisting in data analysis or generating insights from client data.
• Report Writing: Strong competency in writing clear, actionable technical reports and documentation.
