We’re hiring a hands-on Tech Lead for a successful international scale-up headquartered in the Netherlands. The company helps global brands scale content creation and localisation using technology and AI-assisted workflows. After strong growth across Europe, they’re opening their first engineering hub in Spain (Valencia) to drive the next phase of their platform development.

As Tech Lead, you will own the backend platform (Laravel / PHP 8+) and guide a small senior team while remaining actively involved in coding. This is not a corporate management role, it’s for someone who thrives in a fast-moving, startup-style environment, delivering at speed, iterating and refactoring smartly.

Responsibilities

Own and evolve the Laravel-based backend platform, ensuring performance, scalability and code quality

Architect and deliver solutions across Laravel (PHP 8+) and React/TypeScript

Lead technical delivery within 6-week agile product cycles (Shape-Up)

Build and improve APIs, data pipelines and integrations across systems

Oversee AWS infrastructure, GitLab CI/CD pipelines and DevOps standards

Mentor engineers and foster an agile, pragmatic and collaborative culture

Work directly with the CPO (Amsterdam) and Product team on feature delivery

Quarterly travel to Amsterdam for alignment and workshops

Requirements

+8 years of software engineering experience

+5 years of Laravel / modern PHP framework experience (non-negotiable)

Proven experience leading small teams or acting as senior reference point

Background in startup or scale-up environments (iterative, fast and hands-on)

Strong API design, data modelling and integration skills

Experience with AWS, CI/CD (GitLab) and containerisation (Docker)

Fluent in English and comfortable collaborating cross-functionally

Nice to Have

Interest or exposure to AI workflow automation tools (n8n, Orq.ai, etc.)

Experience with data engineering or BI tools (Metabase, ETL pipelines)

Previous experience building or scaling tech teams
