Team Leader Software Engineering | Java | Garmin Golf

Our team develops software solutions for Garmin Golf. This is a comprehensive platform of devices and apps (including wearables, sensors, simulators and a mobile app), designed to help golfers improve their game, connect with others, and enjoy a more engaging golfing experience. Users can track scores, view scorecards, and gain insights into their performance.

As a Team Leader, you will be directing and coordinating software development activities within Garmin Golf teams. You will directly supervise Java software backend engineers, oversee training and career development for all your team members and address team problems. You will help design, implement and develop various sets of APIs that support multiple business segments in accordance with Garmin's software development methodology.

Essential job functions:

• Responsible for driving, coordinating, supervising and facilitating the work processes of Java/backend engineering teams.
• Active leading or delegation the solution creation, effort estimation, development, and project implementation.
• Create, maintain, improve and provide needed resources to enable team members to do their work.
• Ensure efficient inter-team communication and disseminate information coming from outside the group.

Requirements:
Technical:

• Strong knowledge of Java and OOP principles.
• Proven experience in designing, enhancing and developing complex Java microservices using Spring Boot (experience in cloud-native application development is a plus).
• Good knowledge of Spring Framework.
• Good knowledge of web services (REST).
• Good knowledge of relational or non-relational databases.
• Skilled in unit testing.
• Good understanding of design patterns.
• Experienced in development tools (source control, development environment, issue tracking).
• Familiar with building tools and continuous delivery.
• 6+ years of relevant work experience.

Leadership skills:

• Proven experience in performance evaluation of team members.
• Ability to set SMART objectives for each team member that align with the team and organizational goals.
• Demonstrate mentoring experience in helping team members tailor their careers.
• Focus on efficient time and resource management.
• Demonstrate strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Skilled in feedback delivery for team members.
• Able to negotiate different aspect of product delivery with team members and stakeholders.
• Excellent English speaking and writing skills.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in leading teams of 4+ people.
• Strong initiative to find ways to improve solutions, systems, and processes.
• Have experience with working as part of an Agile (especially Scrum) team.
• Solid abilities in organizing, planning, and prioritizing team work.
