Job Description
Your mission:
You will spearhead the operation and ongoing refinement of highly secure infrastructure solutions that underpin our mission to deliver a sovereign, open-source cloud. Working within a rigorously protected environment, you will help shape a cloud infrastructure built on OpenStack and Kubernetes, playing a pivotal role in advancing digital sovereignty and security across Germany and Europe. As a System Engineer, you will ensure our systems remain both resilient and dependable while championing the principle of configuration sovereignty. By maintaining absolute oversight of our infrastructure and collaborating closely with colleagues across various disciplines, you will deepen your expertise daily and work together to implement increasingly sophisticated solutions.
Your tasks:
• Continuously advancing operations within our SINA Cloud environment by thoughtfully adapting our processes and tools
• Managing isolated air gapped security environments, which involves setting them up, allocating servers, and smoothly rolling out updates
• Configuring Data Processing Units (DPUs) alongside seamlessly managing our storage solutions and the shared network fabric
• Administering core infrastructure components and carefully regulating access to them
• Ensuring comprehensive system observability by building and fine tuning telemetry, alerting, and central log aggregation
• Executing off site backups, expertly navigating disaster recovery scenarios, and planning as well as implementing updates to continuously evolve our operational systems
Requirements:
• Solid, applied expertise in Linux, along with complete confidence in using the command line, Vim, SSH, and OpenSSL
• Practical experience with Git and GitOps workflows to successfully drive configuration sovereignty
• Applied knowledge of container technologies (Open Container Initiative), virtual machines (VMs), and highly available Kubernetes (HA k8s)
• Ideally, you have a deep understanding of our platform technologies, or a strong drive to learn them, specifically NixOS (including our custom security applications) and OpenShift
• It would also be fantastic if you are familiar with our core infrastructure or eager to get up to speed on it, particularly OpenStack (RabbitMQ with Quorum Queues, Galera, Keystone, HA OpenStack) and Ceph (HA Ceph, CRUSH, Failure Domains)
• A solid grasp of modern cloud network architectures and their associated protocols, specifically utilizing Neutron, OVN, and BGP
• Fluent German and solid English skills, along with a willingness to undergo a security clearance (SÜG)
What you can expect:
You’re joining a genuine tech company with open-source DNA at its core. In our cross-functional team, we prioritize technical excellence, peer-to-peer knowledge sharing, and a proactive, hands-on mindset. We truly believe that the best technical solution should always come out on top, regardless of titles or hierarchies. You can look forward to streamlined decision-making and plenty of room to bring your own ideas to life.
