Swine Genetic Technician

Prestage Farms is seeking a dedicated Swine Genetics Technician to join our team at the Swine Genetics Complex. In this role, you will be responsible for collecting, training, feeding, and caring for boars while supporting daily operations that ensure the health, productivity, and genetic advancement of the herd. This position requires reliability, strong attention to animal welfare, and the ability to work early morning shifts and some weekends. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Collecting boar semen in a timely and efficient manner on a daily basis

• Properly feeding boars daily by pushing a feed cart once a day into breeding barn
• Training of new boars as needed
• Treating boars with medication as needed
• Keeping boar rooms clean at all times
• Helping to pull blood and detusk boars as needed
• Power washing boar rooms as needed (bi-annually)
• Work in isolation as needed
• Daily stock supplies in room
• Maintenance on buildings and equipment as needed
• May be required to do laundry, clean showers and break room
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements:
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
• Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

ADA Requirements

• Abilityto use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and stoop, kneel, or crouch
• Ability to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision
• The greatest amount of heavy physical work is during blood collection and detusking
