Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The Opportunity

To fulfil our commitment to a diverse legal academy and profession, the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Business and Economics are seeking to recruit an aspiring or established Pasifika legal academic to take a lead role in supporting the Pasifika student body and contribute to our high-quality teaching. This is a joint appointment across both faculties.

We are seeking applicants with strong connections to Pasifika communities and an in-depth understanding of Pasifika culture, to provide support, advice and mentorship to students throughout their journey with us.

You will be committed to undertaking research-informed teaching, providing administrative and managerial leadership to academic and pastoral initiatives for Pasifika students, and contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Pacific-themed law and commercial law courses across both faculties.

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) permanent position. 

The typical workload allocation for this role is 60% teaching and 40% service. There may be opportunity for a research component to be incorporated into the workload allocation.

The remuneration range is $105,791-$139,199 per annum depending on the academic level of appointment.

He kōrero mōu | About you

The successful candidate will have an undergraduate Law degree (LLB or equivalent) and appropriate professional or teaching experience in Law or a postgraduate degree in Law. A successful candidate will ideally be committed to pursue further academic qualifications. Support for candidates who wish to study towards a postgraduate degree in Law may be provided.

You will have a proven aptitude for supporting Pasifika people and deep understanding of Pacific cultural values. This could include experience in providing culturally appropriate education, pastoral care and assistance to Pasifika peoples, participation and service in Pasifika communities in local community programmes, faith communities and associations, and demonstrated leadership and experience representing their respective Pacific families and communities in local, national and international contexts. Recognition will be given to the impact active community service and family support roles can have on personal professional achievements.

We are looking for someone who is highly motivated by mentoring and making a difference within the Pasifika student community and helping our students contribute to a future legal and business landscape, underpinned by a deeper understanding and connectedness to Pasifika people, culture and values. You will be given the opportunity to pursue your professional goals and enhance your areas of expertise. A commitment to providing the chosen candidate with the full support required to succeed in this role relative to their aspirations and academic level will be offered.
