Position Description
The Survey & Layout Manager leads J. Benton Construction’s enterprise-wide survey and layout program across all active projects. This role establishes standards, manages personnel and equipment, ensures quality control, and integrates layout strategy into project planning and execution.
Serving as the technical authority for all field layout and surveying activities, this position partners closely with field operations, project management, self-perform teams, and external stakeholders to support safe, accurate, and efficient project delivery.
This position is a regional position and will require inter-island travel.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage JBC’s survey and layout program, including staffing, training, performance management, and professional development
Establish, maintain, and enforce company-wide layout standards, procedures, and quality control protocols
Plan and allocate layout resources across projects and islands to support schedules, scope, and complexity
Serve as the technical authority for construction layout and surveying, providing guidance and oversight to field teams
Review and verify control networks, benchmarks, and layout prior to major construction activities
Oversee layout for complex scopes including foundations, structures, MEP, architectural control, and civil work
Coordinate with project management, field supervision, designers, external surveyors, and trade partners to resolve dimensional conflicts
Support constructability reviews, RFIs, and sequencing strategies related to layout and site logistics
Manage layout and survey equipment, including calibration, maintenance, and upgrades
Ensure all survey and layout operations comply with company safety standards and OSHA requirements

Required Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in construction survey, layout, or field engineering
Demonstrated experience leading or supervising layout or survey teams
Advanced proficiency with total stations, GPS, and laser layout systems
Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, tolerances, and control systems
OSHA 10 or ability to obtain within a required timeline
Preferred Experience (includes, but is not limited to):
Licensed Professional Surveyor, current or previous
FAA 107 Drone Operations
OSHA 30

Ability to work outdoors in varying tropical weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, and sun exposure
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods
Ability to navigate active construction sites with changing ground conditions and elevations
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Ability to safely use ladders, scaffolding, and other access equipment as required
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
Compensation & Benefits
The base salary for this position is one component of J. Benton Construction’s total compensation package. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including a candidate’s skills, experience, education, relevant qualifications, internal equity, and business needs.
