The Survey Data Technician performs office data reductions, calculations and checks. Are you looking to join a firm and gain more knowledge of the survey and mapping world? You will learn the ins and outs of surveying and basic mapping skills under the direction of experienced surveyors. If you are detail-oriented, have a background in computer science, math or mechanical drawing, this may be the position for you. Some experience is preferred.
Responsibilities:
Convert field survey data to computer map form using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2015 and Trimble Business Center software and perform associated mapping and records work as assigned
Prepare as-built drawings and databases of construction projects
Review client’s plans for compliance with surveying protocols and company standards
Prepare maps of the new project areas for inclusion into GIS
Prepare specialty maps for client use
Maintain the horizontal and vertical control database
Prepare alignment files (.RXLs) utilizing Trimble Business Center
Prepare specialty maps for client use
Check daily field notes for completeness, accuracy and compliance with company format
Assist field crews with calculations, create base files, and maintain current versions
Determine that all project survey tasks have been completed, reviewed, processed and documented in compliance with the project requirements
Required Skills and Experience:
Minimum 2 years’ experience is required
Applicants will have a basic understanding of survey procedures and data collection and a level of knowledge to work independently
Ability to work on multiple projects using raw field data and computer data
Ability to apply land surveying methodologies, formulas, principles, and techniques to solve surveying related problems
Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
Extensive knowledge of Trimble Business Center
Working knowledge of Trimble GPS units and data collectors is preferred
Ability to review their own work for accuracy and completeness and the initiative to recommend solutions or improvements as appropriate
Self-starter, organized, attentive to detail, and able to work under stress to meet deadlines
