Job Title: Supported Child Development Inclusion Facilitator

Hours:  35 hours a week

Location(s):  Penticton/South Okanagan/Similkameen region

Job Summary
Reporting to the Inclusive Community Consult of Supported Child Development, the SCD Inclusion Specialist is responsible
for the effective delivery of the support and resources to childcare centres in Penticton and South Okanagan area with a
focus on enhancing inclusive childcare.
The SCD Inclusion Specialist supports childcare programs in the community to create inclusive and inspiring childcare
environments

Qualifications
• A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education, with a minimum of five years’ experience or a
combination of related training and experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience working with computers, including proficiency in
Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

• Successful completion of:
— criminal record check
— immunization record
— personal and professional references
— educational transcripts
• Valid BC driver’s license, reliable vehicle, clean driving record, and ability to obtain business use vehicle insurance.
• Early Intervention and Prevention Training.
• Signed Confidentiality Agreement.
• Adherence to OneSky policies and procedures, program operations manual, and commitment to the Code of Ethics.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
• Demonstrated knowledge of family centered practice early intervention, child development, and services that
support children with developmental delays and their families.
• Knowledge of developmentally appropriate early childhood practice and inclusion, and the ability to model and
communicate these concepts to staff, childcare settings and families.
• Comprehensive knowledge of community childcare resources and other community support service
• Knowledge of cultural and socio-economic issues, including family systems and culturally appropriate practices.
• Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
• Adherence to OneSky policy and procedures, Code of Ethics and Confidentiality Agreement.
• Ability to maintain a positive, professional presentation.
• Skill in administering a range of formal and informal developmental assessment tools.
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel and Publisher) and internet/email usage
competency.
• Ability to work independently and to manage time and workload effectively.
• Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development training/courses.

Expectations in Working in a Child Care Setting
• Communicate effectively with childcare setting team.
• Understand and respect the childcare setting philosophy.
• Be receptive to new ideas and suggestions from childcare setting team, community professionals, and Supported
Child Development.
• Be aware of emergency plans at the setting and your responsibilities within those plans.

Responsibilities
• Support the childcare setting to develop and implement inclusive philosophies, practices, policies and procedures.
• Provide information, resources, suggestions, strategies, and training to support inclusive practices, family-centered
and culturally appropriate practices in childcare settings.
• Work collaboratively with childcare settings to support their development and implementation of Individual Service
Plans.
• Work with community partners, including but not limited to, Child Care Resource and Referral, OSNS, Community
Care Facilities Licensing, Infant Development Program, all Licensed and License-Not-Required childcare programs,
School District, and Child and Youth Committees to enhance services and resources available to children with
support needs.
• Actively work to enhance capacity in Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities in support of access to services.
• Maintain a commitment to maintaining inclusive quality service environments that provide participants with respect,
and value their choices and abilities.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Support and maintain CQI initiatives and accreditation requirements.
• Participate in OneSky meetings and events as required.
• Perform any related duties as assigned and/or required to maintain the operations and integrity of the program.

Working Conditions
• Travel within the South Okanagan/Similkameen region may be necessary.
