Our Patient Services Department is responsible for the collection of blood samples in the community and hospital environments. This includes handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, faeces, urine, tissue etc from patients. These samples are then processed and tested in our state-of-the-art medical laboratory.

Our Patient Services Department is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Phlebotomist ready to take the next step in their career as a Supervisor. This is a permanent, full-time position (80 hours per fortnight), offering a fantastic opportunity to grow professionally in a supportive and dynamic environment.
In this key leadership role, you will play an integral part in supporting and coordinating the daily operations of the Collection Centre, working closely with the Head of Department (HOD) and Team Leaders to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care and service excellence.
This role requires a confident people leader who leads by example, fosters a positive and inclusive team culture, and upholds Awanui’s values in every aspect of leadership and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the Head of Department (HOD) and Team Leader in the day-to-day leadership and coordination of the Collection Centre.
Assist in managing daily operations to ensure efficient workflow and exceptional patient service.
Provide frontline supervision, mentoring, training, vertical audits and competency assessments as required..
Ensure team members are informed, compliant with SOPs, and working to the highest clinical and technical standards.
Ensure appropriate staff time management practices, equipment oversight, and collection centre record keeping (including Team Leader/Trainer relief as required).
Support performance appraisals, audits, professional development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Promote a positive, accountable team culture aligned with Awanui values.
This position is ideal for a motivated and experienced individual with strong leadership capability, who is passionate about delivering exceptional patient services, mentoring and developing others, and leading a team in alignment with Awanui values.

Leadership experience is preferred but not
Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate is
