Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Superintendent with a strong background in underground utilities and general engineering construction to oversee field operations across projects in the Los Angeles area. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day site activities, supervising crews and subcontractors, ensuring safety compliance, and delivering projects on schedule and within budget.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with wet and dry utilities, grading, excavation, trenching, and site infrastructure, and understands the complexities of working in Southern California’s regulatory and municipal environments.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee field operations for underground utility and civil infrastructure projects
• Supervise and coordinate crews, subcontractors, equipment, and materials
• Manage installation of water, sewer, storm drain, fire line, gas, electrical, and dry utilities
• Coordinate grading, trenching, shoring, backfill, compaction, and paving restoration
• Ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and local agency requirements
• Maintain project schedules and monitor production rates
• Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce OSHA and company safety standards
• Coordinate inspections with city, county, and utility agencies
• Track field quantities, manage labor productivity, and assist with cost control
• Communicate regularly with Project Managers regarding progress, challenges, and schedule updates
• Lead site logistics planning in high-traffic or urban environments
Requirements:
• 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent or Foreman in underground utilities or general engineering construction
• Strong knowledge of water, sewer, storm drain, and dry utility installation
• Experience working on public works and municipal projects in Southern California
• Ability to read and interpret civil plans, utility profiles, and grading plans
• Experience managing multiple crews and subcontractors
• Strong understanding of excavation safety, trench protection, and shoring systems
• Proven ability to maintain project schedules and meet deadlines
• OSHA 30 certification preferred
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites within the Los Angeles area
Preferred Experience
• Experience with Caltrans, LADWP, LA County, or City of Los Angeles standards
• Knowledge of SWPPP requirements and stormwater compliance
• Experience with heavy civil, street improvements, and infrastructure upgrades
