The Associate Scientists serve as Scientific referees for NSPP Specialists on Site. They act as an interface between Breeders and Operations while ensuring secure planning and scheduling according to capacity. They provide technical direction to the NSPP Teams and serve as a reference point for NSPP trait notations and data collection, taking accountability for non-basic notations. These scientists contribute to Inbred and hybrid Phenotyping, data analysis, and the implementation of Marker and predictive breeding technology. They are responsible for securing and supporting activities related to material creation and tracking through various tools including MINT, SPIRIT, TOPS, ADAPT, GARF, and STARLIMS. Additionally, they enable Wow harmonization and KPIs tracking, while supporting breeders with notations in local yield and observations trials.

Accountabilities

• Plan and design the nursery and production (ISO) trials, prepare summaries and technical reports. Make appropriate conclusions and recommendations, interpret results. May communicate reports via oral presentations to peers.
• Act as Scientific & Technical reference point for the local Operation Teams.
• Being an active interface between Breeders and Operational team for process follow-up.
• Accountable for NSP local KPIs collection, visualization in dashboard and indicator evaluations. Gives directions on how to improve performance in Nursery and Seeds Production.
• Being part of the NSP Technical Europe Team, contributes to NSP protocols and ways of working standardization.
• Germplasm management according to Seeds Retention Policy and other Procedures.
• Lead NSP data collection by primarily giving support to the MET Sunflower breeding program.
• Contribute to notations in local yield and observations trials under breeders request when time is available and respecting the priorities of the NSP.
• Is part of the Tier 2 meetings and function as a member of a project/product team (Regional / Global).
• Participate to the selections and advancement decisions through the whole product development stages.
• Implement where appropriate marker-assisted breeding (MAB) and genomic selection (GS), DH and other breeding tools.
• Participate in global sharing of information on breeding protocol improvement.
• Reads and understands scientific literature, participates in meetings and shares relevant information with others.
• Data Management:• Support the Data Quality Control of the nursery’s trials according to team strategy and requirements.
• Secure and support activities related to material creation and tracking (working with MINT, SPIRIT, TOPS, ADAPT, GARF, STARLIMS tools).
• Run first experiment analysis and prepare summaries associating phenotypic data. and genotypic data. (ERDH-SC, Axiom).

• Data visualization.

Required Qualifications

• Degree in Agriculture/Agronomy
• Two years of technical field works in Agriculture
• Basic knowledge of plant breeding and genetics, preferably sunflower
• Fluent in English
• Driving license, category B
• Computer and statistics knowledge
• Self organization ability
• Ability to navigate in a multi-cultural environment
• Adaptability to continuous changes
• Precise, creative and proactive approach
