Summer Photography Assistant
Location: 11738 Kingsway Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta
Closing Date: April 3, 2026, or Until Suitable Candidate Found
Position Status: Full Time (40 hrs per week), Temporary (May-August)
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for one (1) temporary, full-time Summer Photography Assistant. This is a summer term position with an end date of August 28, 2026. Reporting to the Acting Senior Manager of Communications and Citizen Engagement, and working closely with the Photography Coordinator, the Summer Photography Assistant will provide support during the shooting and editing process including capturing photos, scheduling shoots, maintaining equipment, and editing photos. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and will be required to both take direction and work intuitively to support the completion of the department’s goals and objectives in a professionally and culturally appropriate manner.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with logistical planning including scouting locations, considering equipment needs, and scheduling shoots.
Pack, transport, and organize equipment for shoots.
Assist with the setup and teardown of equipment, including cameras, lighting, and props.
Provide support for shoots by adjusting lighting, managing cables, and assisting photographers during shoots.
Capture photos for staged shoots and events.
Edit photos and assist with other postproduction tasks.
Assist with file organization, including naming and entering appropriate key words.
Ensure equipment is well maintained and functioning.
Perform administrative tasks such as document handling, sending emails, and tracking data as needed.
Collaborate with the photography team to contribute creative ideas and support content development.
Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
Other duties as required or assigned.
Skills & Competencies
We are looking for a motivated, confident individual who is passionate about Indigenous issues, photography and communication practices. Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with colleagues is required. Other skills/competencies include:
Strong technical skills and knowledge of photography.
Intermediate to advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.).
Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications and Google Workspace.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including professional email etiquette.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
Planning and organizational skills, with an ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
Political and cultural sensitivity.
Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture, people, and values is an asset.
Qualifications
Obtained or pursuing post-secondary education in Photography or a related field is required. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.
1-2 years of experience in photography. Volunteer or school experience is considered valid experience.

Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
Ability to work evenings and weekends, with notice.
Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement.
Reliable transportation is required.
A valid class 5 driver’s license is an asset.
