SUMMARY:

The Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the City government's chief financial agency. OMB's staff of analysts and experts assembles and oversees the Mayor’s expense and capital budgets, which fund the services and activities of approximately 90 City agencies and entities.

Within OMB, the Policy and Operations Research Task Force is primarily responsible for analyzing fiscal and economic implications of the City’s policy initiatives and evaluating City agencies’ operations and programs, as well as conducting ad-hoc quantitative analysis.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The intern will have the opportunity to contribute to new and ongoing research projects within the unit. These projects may include studies on topics such as homelessness, housing, education, public health, and/or other urban policy issues.

The intern will provide research and analytical support to the unit. Responsibilities may include organizing and cleaning datasets, compiling documentation, and preparing data for analysis. When appropriate, the intern will also conduct descriptive analyses of available data, including estimating relevant statistics, creating descriptive graphs and visualizations, and assisting in the preparation of draft reports and presentations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Quantitative data analysis
- Experience with data cleaning and management
- Experience with statistical software (R, Stata, Python)
- Ability to interpret and communicate empirical findings clearly (written and verbal)

REQUIREMENTS:

Graduate interns must be currently enrolled or accepted into a graduate program. Candidates should have strong analytical, quantitative, research and communication skills. Additionally, candidates must be proficient in MS Word and Excel

To participate in the OMB Summer Internship Program, graduate students must be currently enrolled or accepted into a graduate program.

Compensation/Duration:

Summer Graduate Intern $20 per hour

Internships will run for 10 weeks, from June 1, 2026, to August 7, 2026. The work must be done during the regular workday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. – no evenings or weekends.

This is a hybrid position with in-person days located at OMB’s offices at 255 Greenwich Street
