Summer Children and Family Services C-92 Engagement Assistant

Location: 12308 111 Avenue #200, Edmonton, Alberta            

Closing Date:  April 3, 2026, or Until Suitable Candidate Found.

Position Status: One (1) Full Time (40 hrs per week), Temporary (May-August)      

 

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for a full-time, temporary, Summer Children and Family Services C-92 Engagement Assistant. This is a summer term position with an end date of August 28, 2026. Reporting to the Children and Family Services Strategic Development Advisor and working closely with the C-92 team, the successful candidate will assist with programs and services in respect to Act C-92, an Act respecting First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children, youth, and families.  The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to both take direction and work intuitively to support the completion of the department’s goals and objectives in a professionally and culturally appropriate manner.

 

Key Responsibilities

Gather citizens’ experiences with the Otipemisiwak Métis Government Children and Family Services (CFS) department, and capture information in a respectful manner during engagement sessions.

Support in developing and implementing information and record management initiatives within CFS.

Organize and digitize collected information.

Assist with the development of program documents.

Assist with planning logistics of provincial internal and external C-92 engagement events under the CFS department.

Maintain awareness of government policies and programs related to Act C-92.

Support the Child and Family Services (CFS) Advisory Committee by drafting policy and position papers.

Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of C-92 and other CFS department events, workshops, and gatherings.

Be a representative for, and participate in Otipemisiwak Métis Government community engagements and other opportunities.

Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.

Support other Otipemisiwak Métis Government CFS initiatives and perform other duties as required or assigned.

 

Skills & Competencies 

We are looking for a motivated, confident individual who is passionate about Métis children and families and driven to support work in respect to Act C-92. Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with colleagues is required. Other skills/competencies include:

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including professional email etiquette.

Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.

Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.

Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Willingness to learn and develop new skills.

Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities.

Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.

Ability to produce professional reports, documents, and presentations.

Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications, Adobe, and Google Workspace.

Political and cultural sensitivity.

Compassionate, empathetic, and trustworthy.

Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture, people, and values is an asset.

 

Qualifications

Obtained or pursuing post-secondary education in Law, Human/Social Service, or a related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.

Experience working in the Human Services field is an asset. School or volunteer experience is valid experience.

Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.

Other Requirements

Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.

Ability to work evenings and weekends, with notice.

Ability to travel throughout Alberta, with notice.

Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Acceptable attainment of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check, and an Intervention Record Check is required.
