Summary of Position
The Summer Camps Coordinator is a dual-purpose role that supports SAIL’s summer camp programs and our summer work program. In this role, you will help youth with disabilities or other employment barriers navigate employment preparation and recreational activities.
Your primary focus is two-fold: supporting the Summer Work Program (SWP) and coordinating specialized summer transition camps that blend employment readiness with outdoor recreation. You will work closely with the Sitka Employment and Recreation Specialist to ensure students gain confidence, professional skills, and experience in the outdoors.
Responsibilities and Duties
Camp Coordination & Employment Prep
Plan & Execute: Coordinate summer transition camps focusing on "Pre-Employment Transition Services" (Pre-ETS) for high school students.
Skill Building: Lead workshops and activities that teach job readiness, such as problem-solving, adaptability, and professional communication.
Recreation Leadership: Organize and assist with inclusive recreation activities, such as biking, hiking, and kayaking.
Summer Work Program (SWP) Support
Mentorship: Support the SWP Coordinator by modeling a strong work ethic and professionalism for students on-site.
Instructional Assistance: Help the SWP Coordinator with student supervision and the delivery of educational curriculum during workdays.
Safety & Standards: Assist in ensuring safety procedures are followed, and that equipment is properly used and maintained.
Administrative Support
Outreach: Communicate with community members and partner organizations about program recruitment and registration.
Documentation: Maintain accurate student notes, progress reports, and program evaluations as required by partners like the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR). Collect and securely manage participant paperwork and sensitive information in alignment with confidentiality and program requirements.
Skills and Experience Required
Philosophy: A strong embrace of the Independent Living Philosophy (choice, autonomy, and integration).
Leadership: Ability to serve as a relatable role model while managing the logistics of a group setting.
Communication: Ability to work effectively with students, parents, community partners, and the SAIL team.
Safety: First Aid and CPR certification (or the ability to obtain it within the first week).
Computer Literacy: Ability to handle professional emails, reporting, and documentation.
Valid Alaska Driver’s License.
Preferred Skills
Personal experience with a disability and/or the independent living movement.
Knowledge of Native Alaskan Cultures and traditional values.
Familiarity with the unique lifestyle and challenges of rural Alaska.

Physical & Environmental Factors:
The Elements: This position involves significant time outdoors. Sitka is a temperate rainforest; you will encounter rain, wind, and varying temperatures.
