Job Description

Glenlyon Norfolk School (GNS) is an independent JK to Grade 12 International Baccalaureate and Round Square day and boarding school located on two campuses in Victoria, BC, Canada. Our school provides an exceptional educational experience for students from age three to Grade 12 that focuses on providing robust academics, promoting healthy social and emotional development, and utilizing student-centred, inquiry-based learning within a supportive community. Supported by the curricular framework of the IB, we strive to offer a learning experience that nurtures creativity, encourages critical thinking, and prepares students for success in their post-secondary studies and beyond. 

 

We are looking for individuals who will share in our passion for preparing outstanding citizens of character who will contribute to the world through their leadership, a commitment to service, and an understanding that we are all responsible for the future of our communities.  We are currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Camp Leaders and Camp Assistants to join our Camps team, and we invite qualified candidates to apply for the following opportunity: 

Camp Leaders & Camp Assistants:

Summer Camps: June 15 - August 28, 2026

Camp Hours: 8:15-4:15 M-F 

Compensation: 

Camp Assistant Rate: $22.88/hour ($22.00/hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits)

Camp Leader Rate: $27.04/hour ($26.00/hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits)

Mandatory Training

All successful candidates are expected to attend a mandatory training week prior to the start of camps, unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Training Dates:

May 25–29, 2026

Training Schedule:

Monday–Thursday: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Friday: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm (half day)

This training equips staff with the tools, safety protocols, and programming strategies needed to create engaging and successful GNS Camps. It’s also a fun and collaborative opportunity to connect with fellow camp staff, build relationships, and work together to develop creative lesson plans and activity ideas before the summer begins! 

Position Overview

Glenlyon Norfolk School (GNS) is seeking Camp Leaders and Camp Assistants to join our Camps team. These roles are responsible for supporting the planning and delivery of engaging, age-appropriate camp programming during school breaks. Camp staff ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive environment where children can participate in recreational, creative, and educational activities. Camp Leaders oversee daily programming, facilitate activities, support camper engagement, and provide guidance to Camp Assistants. Camp Assistants support activity implementation, supervise campers, assist with transitions and set-up, and contribute to the overall smooth operation of the camp day. All camp staff are responsible for active supervision, fostering positive peer interactions, and maintaining a safe and welcoming camp environment aligned with GNS values.

What You’ll Bring

You are a motivated and self-directed individual with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships with children, parents, and colleagues. You work well as part of a team, communicate clearly, and are committed to delivering an exceptional camp experience. You bring prior experience working with children in a camp, recreational, or school setting, along with demonstrated skills in activity coordination and program support. Close to full summer availability (June 15 – August 28, 2026) is strongly preferred. Applicants must hold a valid First Aid Certificate, and ECE or ECEA certification is considered a strong asset.
