Originally founded in 1991 as Harlem RBI, DREAM has grown to annually serve more than 2,500 youth across East Harlem and the South Bronx through a network of seven PreK-12, extended-day, extended-year DREAM Charter Schools and community sports-based youth development programs. DREAM (formerly known as DREAM Charter School and Harlem RBI), is an innovative educational and youth development organization, serving over 2,500 East Harlem and South Bronx youth in 6 schools. Through its network of rigorous PK-12 public charter schools and out-of-school time programs, DREAM connects youth and families to rigorous, student-centered academics, age-appropriate programs, and passionate professional staff in an intensive multi-year commitment to truly serve the whole child and community.
The Per Diem Substitute Teacher will be responsible for leading phonics and math workshops with groups of 18-22 elementary school students, English Language Arts instruction with groups of 18-22 middle school students, and/or Math instruction with groups of 18-22 middle school students.
The per diem substitute teacher will fulfill the responsibilities of the Summer Teacher on an as-needed, on-call basis.
Responsibilities :
•
Agree to teach on an on-call, as-needed basis between June 29 and July 31, 2026
•
Teach ELA and/or Math components using curriculum provided
•
Support Youth Workers during SEL instruction
•
Use data to meet the needs of all learners
•
Monitor breakfast, lunch, and recess;
•
Attend meetings and professional development as required
•
Implement all health and safety protocols as required, including ensuring child safety and responding appropriately to any incidents
Qualifications:
•
At least two years of lead teaching experience, with a record of improving student achievement preferred;
•
Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality ELA and math instruction to groups of elementary students, or ELA and/or math instruction to group of middle school students, required;
•
Ability to lead high-quality instruction at both the elementary and middle school level, strongly preferred
•
Ability to lead high-quality instruction of both ELA and math, strongly preferred
•
Experience using curriculum aligned with the Science of Reading (ex: CKLA) and Constructivist Learning Theory (ex: math Story Problems) preferred;
•
New York State certification in Childhood Education preferred;
•
Strong ability to engage students in a classroom environment, required;
•
Knowledge and experience with social-emotional learning, preferred;
•
A desire to make a difference in the lives of our students, families and community;
•
Ability to take initiative and maintain flexibility;
•
Desire and ability to receive and implement feedback;
•
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences (including colleagues, students, families);
•
A commitment to working with diverse populations of families and students;
•
Must be able to work in-person at the program site during program hours;
•
A strong belief in the mission and values of DREAM, including the desire to make a difference in the lives of our students, families, and community.
Commitment:
• Program start date: 6/22/26
• Program end date: 7/31/26
• Potential Days & Hours to be called in: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
• Please note: This position is an on-call, as-needed role.

• Mott Haven: 20 Bruckner Boulevard, Bronx, NY

Compensation:
• DREAM offers competitive compensation commensurate with relevant experience. The rate for this position for incoming staff is between $49 and $55 per hour. New hires receive an offer within the range based on their number of years of experience as a lead teacher and internal equity.
