Position: Victim Advocate – Family Services - Full Time

Pay Grade: E4 Status: Exempt/Bi-weekly pay Background Check: Extensive 
Hiring Range - $48,115.42 - $62,341.78 - $76,568.14 - Commensurate with Verified Qualifications

Summary: The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for the administration of a comprehensive substance abuse program that provides counsel and support to help clients overcome addiction from drugs and/or alcohol through assessment, treatment planning, therapy, and ongoing support through care coordination care with others support services. The position may result in the need to work at both the Manistee and Muskegon locations.

 

Employment Qualifications: Minimum Necessary Qualifications

Must have a Clinical Master’s Degree and Michigan Licensure (or in pursuit of) as a LMSW, LLMSW, and LPC; and

Must have experience working with individuals with substance use disorders or co-occurring disorders using evidence-based therapies.

A current Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) or in pursuit of; and

Endorsement of abstinence in their counseling philosophy and approach; and

The possession of a valid Driver’s License with the ability to be insured under the Tribe’s insurance policy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs direct client contact through intake assessments, interviews, and outpatient counseling (12 core functions).

Evaluates clients’ problems, develops and administers treatment programs.

Provides crisis intervention services (emergency detoxification, medical attention, public assistance and outreach for immediate and long-term needs.

Monitors clients’ progress and adjusts treatment plans as necessary. Provides progress to appropriate agencies as required. 

Assists the Peer Recovery Coach and the Prevention Specialist develop and present drug and alcohol educational curriculum and awareness programs and groups.

Shares appropriate cultural knowledge regarding substance abuse.

Assesses and documents client needs and records client participation. Maintains accurate and detailed record-keeping for each client in accordance with department documentation requirements, license and/or funding source regulations.

Provides referral services, drug and alcohol education/materials, and case management.

Utilizes other areas of assistance, collaborating with referral resource agencies, other internal departments, in addition to State and community resources.

Maintains professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of work and complies with all applicable tribal, federal, state laws, and policy.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and researching governmental rulings. Complete required education credits to maintain required certifications.

All other position related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Physical Demands

Sitting for long periods of time, frequent walking, and occasional reaching, bending, kneeling, or stretching is to be expected. The nature of the work also involves manual dexterity to operate office equipment and while keyboarding. An employee will need normal or corrected to normal range of sight and hearing and will carry work-related materials up to fifty (50) pounds.  The employee may be required to provide service in home settings, which may require climbing of stairs and driving a motor vehicle for transportation.

Working Environment

Work is performed in a climate-controlled office environment. The employee’s work schedule may periodically need to be flexible and adjusted according to business need. The employee must be able to effectively handle stressful and compromising situations while remaining focused and professional, as well as be able to deal with difficult people without losing perspective. Occasional overnight or local travel will be necessary to attend meetings or trainings.

Conditions of employment with Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Tribal Government includes superior performance in the selection process, including but not limited to all of the following; any pre-employment interviews, skills testing, credentialing, drug screening, background investigations, reference checks and previous work history, passing a pre-employment drug test and background investigation, possession of a valid Driver’s License throughout employment and being insurable under the Tribe’s insurance policy, and successfully completing a ninety (90) day introductory period.
