Student Library Employee for Library and Media Services
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB FOR LIBRARY SERVICES STUDENT EMPLOYEE:
The Student Library Employee for Library Services assists the Library Technician in managing the Circulation Desk by assisting patrons in the use of the UDC library catalog to identify, locate, retrieve, and request books and other materials within our collection or at one of our Washington Research Library Consortium member institutions (WRLC).
The Student Library Employee for Library Services also serves as a valuable resource to students, faculty, staff, and guest patrons as the initial contact for all services related to the Learning Resources Division, Library Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Understands and performs all tasks related to Circulation, including charging, discharging, and renewing library materials, registering patrons. • Sorts books and other items according to procedure and returns them to shelves, files, or other designated storage areas. • Delivers and retrieves items throughout the library by hand or using pushcart. • Sorts and shelves books. • Removes damaged books from collection. • Checks materials in and our using the circulation process. • Monitors the daily operation of the online circulation system. • Maintains statistics on circulation activity.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB FOR LIBRARY MEDIA SERVICES STUDENT EMPLOYEE:
The Library Media Student Employee, under the general guidance of the Media Technician and the supervision of the Information Technology Specialist Supervisor will perform work in the Media Access Services department to provide technical support and assistance to patrons.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists patrons with a variety of media equipment such as, but not limited to, audio and video recording/playback equipment, projectors, and laptop/desktop computers. • Charges and discharges materials utilizing our own system. • Help with delivery of equipment, setup, and pickup of media equipment used in classrooms and auditoriums spaces. • Assists with maintaining inventory of the unit materials and supplies. • Assist in weeding collections.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
● Currently a matriculating UDC student. ● Strong communication and organizational skills. ● Computer proficient, including Microsoft Office and standard office equipment.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and standard office equipment. Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills and the ability to deliver excellent customer service.

Expectations of the job: The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work effectively, independently, and collaboratively in a diverse, collegial, changing environment. The candidate will possess excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, and project management skills. Recurring contacts are made with faculty, administrators, staff members, students, and the general public, as well as with staff of other WRLC member institutions. Normal physical dexterity is required. The work is generally performed in an office setting.
