Under the supervision of the Associate Director, Student Involvement, this position offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in fostering peer mentorship and student connections at McGill. As the Student Involvement Program Assistant, you will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing the McGill Mentorship Network platform, ensuring seamless functionality for student mentors and mentees, as well as Program Administrators.

 

Your responsibilities will include coordinating data collection and reporting, tracking mentorship engagement metrics, and assisting in the development of structured mentorship programs. You will support the New Student Buddy Program by managing mentor-mentee pairings, streamlining communications, and enhancing program resources. Additionally, you will contribute to the ongoing evaluation and refinement of peer mentorship initiatives by collating resources and making them available to users, researching best practices and integrating feedback from participants.

 

Beyond platform and program management, you will assist with targeted outreach efforts to student groups, update and maintain a comprehensive list of peer support programs and support the promotion of mentorship opportunities through social media, newsletters, and outreach events. You will also work closely with CL&E staff to organize and execute training sessions, tabling events, and engagement campaigns such as the Get Involved campaign and Community Engagement Days.

 

This position is ideal for someone with strong technical, organizational, and analytical skills, who is passionate about enhancing peer support structures and leveraging digital platforms to foster student connections.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Support the development, implementation, and optimization of mentorship programs through the McGill Mentorship Network platform, ensuring seamless operation for mentors and mentees, as well as Program Administrators.
• Assist with the recruitment, training, and engagement of student mentors and mentees, particularly within the New Student Buddy Program.
• Conduct outreach to student-led peer programs and campus units to strengthen mentorship opportunities and enhance collaboration.
• Liaise with student organizations and university departments to identify and promote existing peer mentorship initiatives, encouraging greater student participation.
• Maintain and update the list of peer support and mentorship programs, ensuring it reflects current offerings and provides valuable resources for students seeking mentorship.
• Research best practices in peer-led engagement programming and contribute to the enhancement of mentorship initiatives.
• Update the calendar of events and participate in data collection efforts to measure the impact of mentorship programs and student participation rates.
• Support tabling opportunities, workshops, and outreach activities designed to increase awareness of peer mentorship programs and other student involvement opportunities.
• Assist in coordinating the "Get Involved" campaign in September and February, supporting mentorship-focused outreach and engagement during Community Engagement Days.
• Provide logistical and administrative support for training, workshops, and events coordinated by CL&E related to peer mentorship and student engagement.
• Perform other duties and tasks as required.
• Some weekend and evening work will be required for special events, especially during August

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Currently registered as a full-time student in any degree program at McGill University.
• Will be a returning full-time student in Fall 2026.
• Graduate Student, with experience in software management, preferred.
• Work Study eligibility, an asset.
• Spoken French, an asset.
• Experience in leadership and/or peer mentorship programs, an asset.
• Experience with IT and software management, particularly in platforms supporting user engagement, is an asset.
• Previous customer service experience, an asset.
• Experience in training facilitation, an asset.

• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.  
• Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
• Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work autonomously.
• Ability to be focused and flexible, and work in a busy environment
• Excellent knowledge of McGill campus services, resources, and programs.
• Punctual, organized and professional.
• Self-disciplined, motivated, and reliable.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), with the ability to leverage these tools for data tracking and reporting.

Posting Information:

Hours: Up to 24 hours per week (Monday to Thursday; possibility to work up to 15 hours per week during fall and winter semesters)
