Job Title: Structural Estimator / CAD Operator
Location: Ashland, Virginia
Employment Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire | Onsite
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (includes 1-hour lunch)
Compensation: Up to $100,000 annually (based on experience)
Additional Pay: Performance-based raises and bonus opportunities
Position Summary
We are looking for a skilled Structural Steel Estimator & CAD Specialist to join a growing organization within the steel construction industry. This role combines estimating responsibilities with hands-on CAD and modeling work, making it a strong fit for someone who enjoys both analytical and technical design tasks.
The ideal candidate is detail-focused, experienced in structural steel projects, and capable of managing multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Develop comprehensive cost estimates for structural steel projects, including materials, labor, manpower, scheduling, and margin considerations
• Review and interpret structural drawings, blueprints, and shop drawings to determine project scope and requirements
• Perform CAD drafting and 3D modeling to support project design and planning efforts
• Collaborate with internal teams to align estimating data with project execution plans
• Maintain organized and accurate documentation throughout the estimating lifecycle
• Conduct occasional local site visits as needed (company vehicle provided)
Required Qualifications:
• 5–7+ years of experience in structural steel estimating (required)
• Strong CAD proficiency, specifically within structural steel applications
• Experience with AutoCAD and 3D modeling tools (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
In-depth understanding of structural steel detailing and construction practices
• Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings with accuracy
• Strong computer skills and ability to manage detailed documentation
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
• Comfortable operating in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment
Preferred Background:
• Prior fabrication experience (preferred but not required)
• Experience performing both estimating and CAD functions within the same role
Additional Requirements:
• Must be able to pass a 5-panel drug screening
• Willingness to travel locally as needed (company vehicle provided for business use)
