About the Role

As a Strategic Project Lead on xAI’s Human Data team, you will drive the operational execution of data generation projects critical to developing advanced AI models. This hands-on role involves managing the full lifecycle of data creation, coordinating large-scale distributed teams, and ensuring high-quality deliverables under tight deadlines. You will work closely with xAI’s AI researchers to align operations with research goals, optimize processes, and maintain rigorous standards. This position is ideal for proactive leaders who thrive in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute end-to-end data generation workflows, translating research needs into efficient, scalable processes.

• Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks by implementing improvements such as optimized task sequencing, refined guidelines, incentive structures, and scalable quality controls.

• Manage a distributed network of contributors, overseeing recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance to ensure consistent execution.

• Act as the primary point of contact for xAI’s AI research teams, delivering clear updates, anticipating needs, and fostering collaborative relationships.

• Lead daily project syncs to address challenges proactively and provide transparent progress reports to stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years in high-intensity operational roles, such as consulting, tech startups, or similar fast-paced environments.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with a proven ability to manage complex, time-sensitive projects.

• Ability to work in dynamic settings with tight deadlines and a focus on execution.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing large-scale distributed teams or workflows, ideally in data operations or AI-related projects.

• Familiarity with machine learning data pipelines or AI model development processes.

• Proven track record of implementing process improvements that enhance efficiency and quality.

• Passion for xAI’s mission to advance human scientific discovery through AI.

• A proactive, resilient mindset with the ability to maintain focus and humor in high-pressure situations.

Location and Expectations

• This role is based in Palo Alto, CA, with an in-office requirement of 5 days per week (Monday–Friday; occasional weekend support may be needed for critical milestones).

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual Salary Range: $150,000 - $230,000 USD
