Job Description
The South Europe Statutory Leader is responsible for providing key controllership leadership and guidance to the finance and non-finance teams for the Region.
This will include the active involvement in financial reporting of the company, the implementation of its policies and internal controls and leading audit requirements. This position will report to the North & South Europe Controller and will work closely with the rest of the Region Controllership team to ensure we meet our key controllership objectives. You will also be expected to communicate with senior leadership from the business line and HQ organisations to execute your deliverables.
In this role you will use your experience and expertise to solve problems, execute objectives for self and others, and impact short-term and some long-term business goals. The candidate will be responsible for effectively executing the statutory activities for all legal entities within the region, as well as overseeing the execution of the statutory organization deliverables. We are expecting the candidate to lead and drive actions, understanding complex issues and providing resolutions. We also expect the candidate to be able to work under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines at times to ensure the objectives of the organization are met. The candidate will also be responsible for managing a team based in different countries, so much demonstrate strong leadership skills
Role & Responsibilities:
Audit requirements
Manage internal and external audit works for your Region to ensure on-time delivery of the statutory requirements, execution of the audit plan against the regulatory deadlines
We expect you to be able to utilize your technical knowledge to discuss technical matters with the audit team
Coordinate all deliverables with the relevant owners & responsible parties to ensure documentation is provided to high quality and on time
Ensure that any findings are resolved with appropriate owners (Stat, OTR Finance, FP&A, HR, Tax, Legal, other functions) for both US GAAP and local statutory purposes
Look for opportunities to improve the audit process, including identifying opportunities to reduce stat to GAAP adjustments by addressing the root cause
Ability to direct and guide the business organization with the required disclosures and notes required for the statutory filings using their technical knowledge and expertise
Support the compilation of local supplementary statistical filings.
Transactional tax
Oversee the compliance of the transactional tax filings required for your region e.g. VAT and WHT
Technical controllership:
Ensure compliance with GE policies. Facilitate implementations of new rules and new tools impacting finance reporting
Review processes to improve overall efficiency, particularly LEAN simplification initiatives
Collaborate with the Vernova Hub and Genpact teams to ensure the compliance, integrity of the accounts, and harmonisation of the accounting treatment.
Team leadership
Responsible for the oversight of a team that will support with the execution of the statutory goals.
Drive and encourage processes improvements and legal entities simplification
Collaborate with in-country service providers to identify opportunities to reduce statutory costs and manage risks.
Qualifications:
A degree in accounting or finance and/or a recognized accounting qualification
Proven years of experience in auditing, accounting, or financial reporting – ideally over 8 years within this area
Managing statutory audits/project management experience – ideally over 5 years within this area
Demonstrated proficiency of accounting principles (IFRS/GAAP/local accounting standards and legal requirements)
Must be fluent in English
Highly proficient use of MS Office, SAP experience preferable
