POSITION SUMMARY:
Mackin Engineers & Consultants is seeking a motivated Staff Engineer to support our Structures Design Department. This position involves independently performing engineering tasks, applying technical knowledge to complex challenges, and contributing to innovative structural solutions. WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Provide structural design, inspection, and engineering support across a range of projects
Assist in the development of design plans, including H&H reports, waterway permits, and TS&L submissions
Lead the design and analysis of various structural systems in compliance with applicable codes and standards
Mentor junior staff and offer technical guidance to support their growth and development
Prepare and review detailed drawings, calculations, and technical specifications
Perform field inspections to evaluate existing structures, identify deficiencies, and recommend remediation strategies
Participate in client meetings and clearly communicate technical concepts and recommendations
Manage and coordinate multiple projects while adhering to schedules, budgets, and quality expectations
Track time accurately using weekly timesheets and maintain billable hour targets
Support internal departments with structural design services as needed
Contribute to company-wide initiatives and help foster a collaborative and high-performance culture
Participate in cross-departmental design efforts and assist with projects led by other teams
Represent Mackin at industry conferences, committee meetings, or subcommittees
Support research and development efforts to explore innovative engineering practices
Communicate project or operational developments that may impact schedules, costs, or client satisfaction
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
Bachelor’s or Associate's degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the engineering field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in PA (WV, OH, and/or MD are a plus) or the ability to obtain it within six months is preferred.
PennDOTs Bridge Safety Inspector Certification, NHI - Tunnel Safety Inspection Certification, NHI - Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges Certification, Bridge Scour Evaluation Training.
Knowledge of PennDOT – Programs/Systems, Design Manuals, and Publications
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, MicroStation (preferred, not required) and AutoCAD (optional)
Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
