Role Overview

The Coupang Corner Stone team in tech infrastructure organization, takes charge of company-wide transaction data storage and common data service layer to materialize e-commerce data for low latency reading. The team manages two statefull critical services – UUID generator and data materialization service, and eight storage services including five self-host databases like Cassandra, Elastic Search, MySQL, Vitess and Clickhouse, and three AWS managed services like Aurora, DynamoDB and DocumentDB.

We are looking for a technical leader for the team to oversee the 10 critical services and build the next generation of transactional data storage as a service solution. You are the leader in driving across teams’ tech initiatives and leading engineers to deliver the results. You can proactively identify the system issues, propose solutions, and socialize ideas with stakeholders. You can resolve challenging technical issues and build consensus on the direction and solution. You follow the latest technology and introduce the best industry practice to the company.

What You Will Do

• Lead the technical new initiatives and work with partner teams to deliver results.

• Define the technical direction and work with the leadership team to build the roadmap.

• Identify the system reliability and performance issues and propose solutions applying best industry practice.

• Lead the challenging incident investigation and represent the team in the incident war room.

• Collaborate with other Coupang tech teams to make the service extensible to support business growth

• Drive communication up to Principal Engineer and VP level.

• Advocate engineer excellence and operation excellence with the team

• Hire and develop team members with knowledge sharing and high-quality interviews.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, Math, or a closely related field

• 8 years of experience in backend software development

• Proficiency in Java

• Experience working in cloud environments, particularly AWS

• Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining highly available, distributed systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Deep understanding of Kubernetes, database and storage technologies

• Deep understanding of service availability, scalability, latency, monitoring and operation.

• Have experience of infrastructure and technical platform work

• Have experience of driving across team tech initiatives and new customer migration.

• Strong System design, hand on coding and debugging skills

• Familiar with AWS technology

• Excellent communication skills in English including verbal and written

• 10+ years working experience on software design & development experience distributed system and experience developing large scale enterprise

Pay & Benefits

Our compensation reflects the cost of living across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation. The base pay for this position ranges from $159,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $324,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
